A combined experimental/numerical study was performed to calculate the 3D octahedral shear strain map in a mouse tibia loaded axially. This study is motivated by the fact that the bone remodelling analysis, in this in vivo mouse model should be performed at the zone of highest mechanical stimulus to maximise the measured effects. Accordingly, it is proposed that quantification of bone remodelli...

We consider a non periodic homogenization model designed to simulate the blood flow at the level of the micro-vascularised tissues. We solve elliptic partial differential equations with two length-scales on the domain and we use the reduced-basis method to speed up the numerical resolution. Finally, we show numerical results and comparisons in 2D and 3D.

Validation of 3D finite element model for free-surface flow is conducted using a high quality and high spatial resolution data set. The present research finds its motivation in the increasing need for efficient management of geophysical flows such as estuaries (multiphase fluid flow) or natural rivers with the complicated channel geometry (e.g. strong channel curvature). A numerical solution is...

High cycle fatigue failure of turbine and compressor blades due to resonance in the operating frequency range is one of the main problems in the design of gas turbine engines. To suppress excessive vibrations in the blades and prevent high cycle fatigue, dry friction dampers are used by the engine manufacturers. However, due to the nonlinear nature of friction contact, analysis of such systems ...

This paper validates 3D simulation results of electron beam melting (EBM) processes comparing experimental and numerical data. The physical setup is presented which is discretized by a three dimensional (3D) thermal lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). An experimental process window is used for the validation depending on the line energy injected into the metal powder bed and the scan velocity of th...

This work deals with numerical solution of first order hyperbolic equation or system in 2D or 3D. In the first part, the solution of a 2D linear scalar equation is investigated. Using this model problem, the results of different numerical schemes are compared from the point of view of accuracy and parallel efficiency. The next part describes 2D and 3D steady numerical solutions of the transonic...

tunnelling through cities underlain by soft soil, commonly associated with soil movement around the tunnels and subsequent surface settlement. the predication of ground movement during the tunnelling and optimum support pressure could be based on analytical, empirical or the numerical methods. the commonly used earth pressure balance (epb) tunneling machines, uses the excavated soil in a pressu...

Using heat shield, especially in throat area has a significant effect on combustion chamber pressure and thermal efficiency of solid fuel engines. Precise prediction of the regression of throat area for different pressures, will lead to optimal design of the motors, specifically for those of long burnout times. In this work, erosion of graphite nozzles employed in solid propellant motors with a...

latticed columns are frequently used in industrial steel structures. in some countries these built-up columns might be even used in other types of steel structures such as residential and commercial buildings. besides, latticed columns are parts of skeletons of many historic buildings all around the world. to analyze a steel structure with latticed columns a more accurate numerical model for su...

For a long period of time, design and manufacturing technology of high flow rated vertically suspended pumps (VSPs) which have an extensive applications in many industries such as water and wastewater, mining, petrochemical and oil and gas industries, used to be imported from European countries. For the first time in Iran's pump industry, with the support of Ministry of Petrochemical[ah1]  and ...
