By a study of the energy minimization of the Vlasov-Poisson system subject to a new class of constraints, it is shown that generalized polytropes are dynamically stable among symmetric perturbations for the parameter range 0 ?1. In particular for l =0, this result justiies the classical Antonov's linear stability criterion for polytropes in a dynamical, nonlinear setting.

This paper collects the various ways of computing the central charge c = 3l/2G arising in 3d asymptotically anti-de Sitter spaces, in the Chern-Simons formulation. Their similarities and differences are displayed. It is shown that the numbers ci of chains of length i in the proper part L \ {0, 1} of a distributive lattice L of length l + 2 satisfy the inequalities c0 < . . . < c⌊l/2⌋ and c⌊3l/4⌋ > . . . > cl. This proves 75 % of the inequalities implied by the Neggers unimodality conjecture.

BACKGROUND There is debate about the psychometric characteristics of the three-level EuroQol five-dimensional questionnaire (EQ-5D-3L) for use in epilepsy. In response to the concerns, an epilepsy-specific preference-based measure (NEWQOL-6D) was developed. The psychometric characteristics of the NEWQOL-6D, however, have not been assessed. OBJECTIVES To investigate the validity and responsive...

BACKGROUND While the impact of knee pain and knee osteoarthritis (OA) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has been investigated in the literature, there is a lack of knowledge on the impact of different definitions of OA on HRQoL. The main aim of this study was to measure and compare the impact of knee OA and its different definitions on HRQoL in the general population. METHODS A random...

BACKGROUND Injuries are a leading cause of death and disabilities for children and youth globally. Measuring the health related quality of life of injured children and youth can help gain understanding of the impact of injuries on this population; however, psychometric evaluation of health related quality of life tools among this population is lacking. The purpose of this study was to determine...

BACKGROUND TGF-β plays a dual role in the progression of human cancer. During the early stages of carcinogenesis, TGF-β functions as a tumor suppressor. During the late stages of tumor development, however, TGF-β can promote tumor growth and metastasis. A shift in Smad2/3 phosphorylation from the carboxy terminus to linker sites is a key event determining biological function of TGF-β in colorec...

BACKGROUND Some studies have reported a ceiling effect in EQ-5D-3L, especially in healthy and/or young individuals. Recently, two further levels have been included in its measurement model (EQ-5D-5L). The purposes of this study were (1) to assess the properties of the EQ-5D-5L in comparison with the standard EQ-5D-3L in a sample of young adults, (2) to foreground the importance of collecting qu...

BACKGROUND There is a paucity of data on the distribution of disease severity. In this study, we estimated disease severity distributions in South Korea using two EQ-5D-3L population surveys. METHODS A total of 110 health states for 35 diseases with 2-5 severity levels (e.g., mild, moderate, severe) were included in this study. A general population of 360 participants from the areas surroundi...
