The impact of solar and atmospheric parameter uncertainties on the measurement of θ 13 and δ Abstract We present in this paper the analysis of the measurement of the unknown PMNS parameters θ 13 and δ at future LBL facilities performing complete three parameters fits, each time fully including in the fit one of the atmospheric and solar oscillation parameters within its present (future) error. ...

We found that a reliability model commonly used to estimate Mean-Time-To-Data-Loss (MTTDL), while suitable for modeling RAID 0 and RAID 5, fails to accurately model systems having a fault-tolerance greater than 1. Therefore, to model the reliability of RAID 6, Triple-Replication, or k-of-n systems requires an alternate technique. In this paper, we explore some alternatives, and evaluate their e...

In order to investigate polynomial vector fields admitting a prescribed Darboux integrating factor, we show that it is helpful to employ morphisms of the affine plane. In particular, such morphisms may be used to remove degeneracies of the underlying curve. Our main result states that the space of vector fields admitting a prescribed Darboux integrating factor modulo a well understood subspace ...

As generalizations of the seniority model, four Hamiltonians are considered to investigate some of the physics associated with the pairing of parafermions of order p = 2. 2-particle and 4-particle states are explicitly constructed for HA ≡ −G A†A with A† ≡ 1 2 ∑ m>0 c † mc † −m and the distinct HC ≡ −G C†C with C† ≡ 1 2 ∑ m>0 c † −mc † m, and for the time-reversal invariant H(−) ≡ −G (A† − C†)(...

After more than two decades of refining performance measurement and tuning strategies for traditional DASD devices and the MVS I/O subsystem, performance analysts are now presented with the vagaries of measurement and tuning for RAID-5 basedsubsystems. While a variety of conceptual models might be proposed to explain the performance characteristics of these subsystems, this paper will focus on ...

-This paper presents a new distributed disk-array architecture for achieving high I/O performance in scalable cluster computing. In a serverless cluster of computers, all distributed local disks can be integrated as a distributed-software redundant array of independent disks (ds-RAID) with a single I/O space. We report the new RAID-x design and its benchmark performance results. The advantage o...

We show that a suitably defined marked correlation function can be used to break degeneracies in halo-occupation distribution modeling. The statistic can be computed on both 3D and 2D data sets, and should be applicable to all upcoming galaxy surveys. A proof of principle, using mock catalogs created from N-body simulations, is given.

Dynamical systems with a coupled cell network structure can display synchronous solutions, spectral degeneracies and anomalous bifurcation behavior. We explain these phenomena here for homogeneous networks, by showing that every homogeneous network dynamical system admits a semigroup of hidden symmetries. The synchronous solutions lie in the symmetry spaces of this semigroup and the spectral de...

It now appears phenomenologically that the third family may be essentially different from the first two. Particularly the high value of the top quark mass suggests a special role. In the standard model all three families are treated similarly [becoming exactly the same at asymptotically high energies] so I need to extend the model to accommodate the goal of a really different third family. In t...
