We report a mild and environmentally benign method for the synthesis of tertiary amines using alcohols as the alkylating reagents. Not only secondary amines such as piperazines but also amino acids and amino alcohols can be N-alkylated selectively. For N,O-benzyl protected amino alcohols, both N,O-de-benzylation and N-methylation were achieved in one-pot.

Primary carbohydrate amines at primary and secondary carbons are alkylated by alcohols in the presence of [Cp*IrCl(2)](2). When primary carbohydrate alcohols are used as the coupling partners and in the presence of Cs(2)CO(3), amine-linked pseudodisaccharides are obtained. Secondary carbohydrate alcohols are unaffected under these conditions, which allows regioselective reactions.

Well-defined unnatural dipeptide-alcohols based on a cis-2,5-disubstitued pyrrolidine backbone were synthesized from commercially available starting materials meso-diethyl-2,5-dibromoadipate, (S)-(-)-1-phenylethylamine, and phenylalaninol. The structures of these unnatural dipeptide-alcohols are supported by HRMS, 1H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. These unnatural dipeptide-alcohols can act as build...

wood is a porous three dimensional, hydroscopic, viscoelastic, anisotropic bio-polymer composite composed of an interconnecting matrix of cellulose, hemicelluloses and lignin with minor amounts of inorganic elements and organic extractives. some, but not all, of the cell wall polymer hydroxyl groups are accessible to moisture and these accessible hydroxyls form hydrogen bonds with water. as the...

Abstract Lysine-ε-acetylation (Kac) is a post-translational modification (PTM) that critical for metabolic regulation and cell signaling in mammals. However, its prevalence importance plants remain to be determined. Employing high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry, we analyzed protein lysine acetylation five representative Arabidopsis organs with 2 ~ 3 biological replicates per organ. A total...

influences of the wood fiber acetylation as well as the compatibilizer mapp on water absorption, thickness swelling and dimensional stability of acetylated wood/ polypropylene composites (wpcs) were the main concerns of this research. wood fibers were acetylated with acetic anhydride without using any catalyst to achieve weight percent gains (wpgs) of 4.5, 7.5 and 17.6%. the acetylated fibers w...

histone acetylation, one of the first and best studied histone post-translational modifications (ptms), as well as the factors involved in its deposition (writers), binding (readers) and removal (erasers), have been shown to act at the heart of regulatory circuits controlling essential cellular functions. the identification of a variety of competing histone lysine-modifying acyl groups includin...

We demonstrate an efficient enantioselective oxidation of secondary alcohols catalyzed by Mn(III)-salen complex using N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) as the oxidant. The new protocol is very efficient for the oxidative kinetic resolution of a variety of secondary alcohols, including ortho-substituted benzylic alcohols.
