Introduction Elemental beryllium is a steel gray appearing alkaline earth metal with properties like brittleness and high rigidity being the lightest among metals. The majority of beryllium is found in minerals and soils rather than in its elemental form. Beryllium is found in about 30 different mineral species like different compounds including aluminium e.g. Beryl (beryllium aluminium silicate).

A new [2+2] tetra-hydrazone macrocyclic receptor was significantly amplified in a dynamic combinatorial library upon templation with alkaline earth metal ions. After optimisation the product could be isolated in 95% yield and its interaction with ions was investigated by NMR and UV-Vis spectroscopy.

We calculate ab–initio the electronic states and the Born dynamical charge Z of the alkaline–earth oxides in the local–density approximation. We investigate the trend of increasing Z values through the series, using band–by–band decompositions and computational experiments performed on fake materials with artificially–modified covalence. The deviations of Z from the nominal value 2 are due to t...

The potential range of the transition region between the diffusion-limited reduction to oxidation of hydrogen peroxide depends strongly on the nature of the cation of the supporting alkaline electrolyte. Non-covalent interactions between the hydrated alkali metal cations and chemisorbed OH species on platinum influence the potential-dependent reaction kinetics.

Analysis of 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) and N-arachidonoylethanolamide (anandamide) via alkali or alkaline earth metal-adduct high-energy collision-induced dissociation (CID) in fast-atom bombardment (FAB) ionization-mass spectrometry (MS) is described. The CID-MS/MS of the [2-AG+Li](+) or [2-AG+Na](+) ion undergoes charge-remote fragmentation (CRF), which is useful for the determination of t...

Alkaline and alkaline earth metal complexes of P,P'-diacetyl- (L1(2-)); new P,P'-dipropanoyl- (L2(2-)) and P,P'-dibenzoyl(dichloromethylene)bisphosphonates (L3(2-)) and their hydrolysis products were prepared and characterized using the single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique and spectroscopy, with the intention of studying the hydrolysis and coordinating properties of these potential prodru...

Solid-state chemistry of cluster compounds with metals in the left part of the periodic table is described. As a function of the metal valence electron concentration (VEC), characteristic changes occur with stepwise changing features. Strongly metal-metal-bonded and ligand-encapsulated clusters exist for large values of VEC. At decreased values, endohedral atoms stabilize the clusters, and with...

In the present study, an investigation on the complex formation between mono- and divalent metal ions (Na+, K+, Li+ and Mg2+) in the form of salt with different podands using various solvents has been carried out.  Isolated complexes were characterized by different spectroscopic techniques viz. IR, NMR and elemental analysis. On the basis of ...
