A mild, efficient and versatile method has been developed for the construction of a functionalized natural product, meridianin, and its post conversion to pyrimido-β-carboline by cationic π- cyclization. The strategy involves the introduction of an amino group at the C-5 of the pyrimidine ring and utilizing the nucleophilictiy of the C-2 in the indole ring to facilitate cationic π-cyclization.

Three amino-functionalized fluorene oligomers with different solubility were developed as cathode interfacial materials for inverted polymer solar cells (I-PSCs). By side chain design, we solved the interface layer erosion problem for I-PSCs, and the devices exhibit a power conversion efficiency as high as 8.94%.

The O-arylation of 1,2-aminoalcohols using functionalized triarylbismuth reagents is reported. The reaction can be performed using substoichiometric amounts of copper acetate and operates under mild conditions. We report the first rationally designed (S)-selective MenD from E. coli for the synthesis of functionalized α-hydroxy ketones. By mutation of two amino acids in the active site stereoselectivity of the (R)-selective EcMenD (ee > 93%) was inverted giving access to (S)-5-hydroxy-4-oxo-5-phenylpentanoate derivatives with stereoselectivities up to 97% ee.
