In this paper, we analyze the visual discomfort caused by camera panning in 4K UHD contents. UHD is expected to provide a sense of realness to viewers, with four times more pixels than HD. However, UHD may yield undesirable artifacts, such as the stroboscopic effect from displaying frequency and visual fatigue due to moving objects. To investigate the visual discomfort in the presence of camera...

In this paper, we propose a real-time virtual reconvergence hardware platform especially to reduce the visual fatigue caused by stereoscopy. Our virtual re-convergence hardware platform, which consists of image rectification, disparity estimation, depth postprocessing, and virtual view control, is implemented in 60 fps on a single Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA chip.

Simulated immersive environments displayed on large screens are a valuable therapeutic asset in the treatment of a range of psychological disorders. Permanent environments are expensive to build and maintain, require specialized clinician training and technical support and often have limited accessibility for clients. Ideally, virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) could be accessible to the b...

Purpose In this study, we investigated whether an individual's visual fatigue can be evaluated objectively and quantitatively from their ability to maintain binocular fusion. Methods Binocular fusion maintenance (BFM) was measured using a custom-made binocular open-view Shack-Hartmann wavefront aberrometer equipped with liquid crystal shutters, wherein eye movements and wavefront aberrations ...
