There are many immune mediated disorders with the corroborated role of vitamin D or Vitamin D Receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms in their pathogenesis, immunologic regulation, and disease characteristics. Therefore, in this review, we searched PubMed data base in regard to the role of VDR gene polymorphisms in common autoimmune disorders, emphasizing on dermatologic diseases.

Cancer-associated immune-mediated disorders of the central nervous system are a heterogeneous group. These disorders include the classic paraneoplastic neurologic disorders and the more recently described autoimmune encephalitis associated with antibodies to neuronal cell-surface or synaptic receptors that occur with and without a cancer association. Autoimmune encephalitis is increasingly reco...

Autoimmune disorders constitute a diverse group of phenotypes with overlapping features and a tendency toward familial aggregation. It is likely that common underlying genes are involved in these disorders. Until very recently, no specific alleles--aside from a few common human leukocyte antigen class II genes--had been identified that clearly associate with multiple different autoimmune diseas...

Out of 100 patients with chronic heart block 16 had one or more autoimmune disorders-namely, vitiligo (5,) hypothyroidism (4), Graves's disease (1), pernicious anaemia (2), and diabetes mellitus (9). All these disorders occurred with greater frequency than normal and were more prevalent than in a group of hospital inpatients of comparable age. Autoantibodies were not increased. We suggest that ...

B cells play a key role in regulating the immune system by producing antibodies, acting as antigen-presenting cells, providing support to other mononuclear cells, and contributing directly to Inflammatory pathways. Accumulating evidence points to disruption of these tightly regulated processes in the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders. Although the exact mechanisms involved remain to be eluci...

OBJECTIVE To characterize a cohort of patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) on the presence of other autoimmune disorders that could establish the diagnosis of autoimmune polyglandular syndrome (APS). SUBJECTS AND METHODS We included 151 patients with T1DM. The following clinical parameters were analyzed: gender, current age, disease duration, previous history of autoimmune disorders,...

For many years Sydenham chorea (SC) has been considered the prototype of an autoimmune disorder triggered by an infectious agent. Nevertheless, despite its description more than 300 years ago by Thomas Sydenham, its defined association with rheumatic fever in 1838, and linkage to a preceding group A β-hemolytic streptococcal (GABHS) infection, there are numerous unanswered questions about the u...

recent developments in medicine have given us a better insight into a group of disorders known as autoimmune diseases. in particular, advances have occurred in our understanding of the autoimmune inner ear disease (aied). in this article, the authors review the different postulated theories in the pathogenesis of this disease. the clinical presentation, the available para-clinical diagnostic to...

IMPORTANCE Mood disorders frequently co-occur with medical diseases that involve inflammatory pathophysiologic mechanisms. Immune responses can affect the brain and might increase the risk of mood disorders, but longitudinal studies of comorbidity are lacking. OBJECTIVE To estimate the effect of autoimmune diseases and infections on the risk of developing mood disorders. DESIGN Nationwide, ...

Primary antibody deficiencies (PADs) are the most common inherited primary immunodeficiencies in humans, characterized by hypogammaglobulinemia, an inability to produce specific antibodies, and recurrent infections mainly caused by encapsulated bacteria. However, it has been shown that inflammatory disorders, granulomatous lesions, lymphoproliferative diseases, cancer, and autoimmunity are asso...
