The standard MRS components were optimized using response surface methodology for increasing yield of Streptococcus phocae PI80 viable cells and its bacteriocin. The highest amounts of bacteriocin activity and viable cells were recorded from prediction point of optimized MRS medium and achieved two fold higher (33049.8 AU.mL(-1) and 14.05 LogCFU.mL(-1)) than un-optimized counterpart.

Bradyrhizobium japonicum strain FN1 was found to produce bacteriocin-like zones of clearing when tested against other strains of bradyrhizbia. The genome was sequenced, and several putative bacteriocin-producing genes, in addition to the expected genes involved in nodulation and nitrogen fixation, were identified.

Enterococcus avium isolated from Apis mellifera beebread produces a thermoresistant bacteriocin with a strain-dependent inhibitory effect on Listeria and without effect on gram-negative bacteria. We report here the draft genome sequence of the bacteriocin producer Enterococcus faecium strain L-3, isolated from a probiotic preparation, Laminolact, which is widely used in the Russian Federation. The draft genome sequence is composed of 74 contigs for a total of 2,643,001 bp, with 2,646 coding genes. Five clusters for bacteriocin production were found.

Lactobacillus plantarum 10CH is a bacteriocin-producing potential probiotic lactic acid bacterium (LAB) strain isolated from cheese. Its complete nucleotide sequence shows a single circular chromosome of 3.3 Mb, with a G+C content of 44.51%, a 25-gene plantaricin bacteriocin gene cluster, and the absence of recognized virulence factors.

The 5.6-kilobase-pair cryptic plasmid, pAM7, of Streptococcus mutans LM7 was cloned into Escherichia coli plasmids or a shuttle plasmid to examine whether the plasmid encodes bacteriocin. Plasmid pAM7 encoded proteins with molecular weights of 30,000, 22,000, and 12,000, but none of them appeared to be bacteriocin.
