Balloon dilatation (BD) of bioprosthetic valves was investigated in vivo and in vitro. Four children with stenotic bioprosthetic porcine valves in the pulmonary position underwent BD of the valve 10 to 24 months after its insertion. Average valve gradient was reduced from 47.5 to 27 mm Hg. Obstruction at the conduit-branch pulmonary artery connection became apparent after dilatation of the valv...

A 15 month old baby girl with pulmonary atresia, ventricular septal defect, and multiple aortopulmonary collateral arteries underwent rotational ablation assisted balloon angioplasty of a severely stenosed collateral artery that had previously proved undilatable using a high pressure non-compliant balloon angioplasty catheter. It is postulated that the rotablation debulked a fibrotic stricture ...

We describe a patient with dysphagia. The results of endoscopy, CT scan and echoendoscopy were normal. High-resolution manometry (HRM) showed esogastric junction dysfunction and hypercontractile peristaltic disorder. These HRM abnormalities completely disappeared after pneumatic esophageal dilatation. We discuss the treatment options and recovery of peristalsis after balloon dilatation.

There is a growing inventory of dilatation hardware at the disposal of the interventional cardiologist. The purpose of this review is to compare the distinguishing features of current and anticiputed equipment which should be considered in the selection of hardware for performing corona y angioplasty (PTCA). New guiding catheters designed to improve “back-up” support for di#icult anatomic varia...

AIM: to assess results of balloon dilatation (BD) and electric destruction (ED) for strictures colorectal anastomoses. PATIENTS AND METHODS: the prospective cohort study included 69 patients with anastomotic strictures. Thirty-two them underwent endoscopic dilatation, 37 — scar tissue using a spherical monopolar electrode. RESULTS: recurrence rate stricture in BD group was 3 times higher than a...

OBJECTIVE To assess the effects on haemodynamic function and symptoms of percutaneous balloon dilatation of mitral stenosis in patients unable to undergo surgical treatment because of associated medical/cardiac problems. DESIGN A review of clinical outcome in 28 patients (of 108 undergoing balloon dilatation of the mitral valve) who were unsuitable for surgery. SETTING A tertiary cardiac re...

INTRODUCTION Increasing numbers of complex percutaneous coronary interventions have been accompanied by various intra-procedural complications. The fracture and embolization of devices or their fragments are potentially life-threatening situations, depending on the site of embolization. Different non-surgical methods to handle embolic complications have been proposed for different clinical situ...

Percutaneous balloon dilatation of severe aortic valve stenosis was attempted in thirteen patients (seven neonates and six infants). In two the valve could not be crossed and both died during subsequent operation. Two patients died during manipulation of the balloon catheter. No significant benefit was obtained in another patient who later died during operation. Balloon dilatation was successfu...

A 59 year old man was admitted to hospital with a non-transmural anterior myocardial infarction. Recurrent angina pectoris eight days after the initial infarction was investigated by cardiac catheterisation, which showed moderate anterior hypokinesis and proximal occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery. The distal part of this vessel was opacified via collaterals from the righ...

Endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) has important role in the management of benign gastric outlet obstruction. Although there are many reports on the role of EBD in the management of corrosive-induced and peptic benign GOO, there is scanty data on its role in the management of NSAID-induced GOO. We report 10 cases of NSAID-induced pyloroduodenal obstruction and their endoscopic management. The ...
