Bio-inspired algorithms have received a significant amount of attention in both academic and engineering societies. In this paper, based on the observation of two major survival rules of a species of woodlice, i.e., porcellio scaber, we design and propose an algorithm called the porcellio scaber algorithm (PSA) for solving optimization problems, including differentiable and non-differential one...

Effective image segmentation remains a challenging process as it constitutes a critical step to higher level image processing applications such as pattern recognition. In this paper,we present bio-inspired formulationto perform unsupervised image segmentation. Specifically,we used the Quantum PSO, the hybrid Gravitational PSO algorithm, a cooperative gravitational approach and the bees approach...

In this paper, the idea of a new artificial intelligence based optimization algorithm, which is inspired from the nature of vortex, has been provided briefly. As also a bio-inspired computation algorithm, the idea is generally focused on a typical vortex flow / behavior in nature and inspires from some dynamics that are occurred in the sense of vortex nature. Briefly, the algorithm is also a sw...

In this paper we propose a novel bio-inspired model of a mobile robot navigation system. The novelty of our work consists in combining short term memory and online neural network learning using history of events stored in this memory. The neural network is trained with a modified error back propagation algorithm that utilizes reward and punishment principal while interacting with the environment.

There are many methods introduced to solve the credit scoring problem such as support vector machines, neural networks and rule based classifiers. Rule bases are more favourite in credit decision making because of their ability to explicitly distinguish between good and bad applicants. In this paper multi-objective particle swarm is applied to optimize fuzzy apriori rule base in credit scoring. ...

Central pattern generator (CPG) is defined here as a neural network responsible for the production of the timing cues of a rhythmic motor output pattern. In biological system, the CPG is a network of neurons that generate the rhythmic movements such as locomotion of animals. This rhythmic movement will induced a coordination of physical parts that necessary for stable locomotion. To implement t...

This paper introduces a new algorithm bio-inspired on organic chemistry for approximation problems, named artificial hydrocarbon networks (AHN). In fact, hydrocarbon compounds present characteristics as stability, well-forming structures, and easily-spanning; properties that are needed modeling problems. Actually, artificial organic networks are also presented as basis of AHNs. The description ...
