In continuum approaches to molecular electrostatics, boundary element method (BEM) can provide accurate solutions to the Poisson-Boltzmann equation. However, the numerical aspects of this method are fraught with di culties. We describe our approach applying an alpha shape-based method to generate a high quality mesh, which represents the shape and topology of the molecule precisely. We also des...

The Boundary Element Method (BEM) lends itself well to an object-oriented implementation. Well-defined class hierarchies can reduce the size of a problem solution while improving the readability and maintainability of the solution. The BEM uses geometric elements, defined as collections of nodes, to model a surface. Boundary conditions, specified by the problem, are defined at each node. This s...

This paper presents to the solutions of the acoustic problem using dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM). The acoustic propagates inside the silencer and its sound can be formulated by the three dimensional (3D) Helmholtz equation. The form of the equation is which can be solved by the integral form on the boundary. The conventional boundary element method (BEM) is not suitable for s...

In this work, we have computed the three dimensional weighting potential, field and pad response function (PRF) of typical time projection chambers (TPC) using a recently formulated and developed boundary element method solver, namely, the nearly exact BEM solver. A realistic geometry of the device is found to have significant influence on the estimation of signal generation.

Spurious eigensolutions in the boundary integral equation (BIE) or boundary element method (BEM) for doublyconnected domain problems, the eccentric and annular membranes, are studied analytically and numerically in this paper. For the mathematical analysis, we employ the null-field integral equation, the degenerate kernels and the Fourier series to prove the existence of spurious eigensolutions...

A patch representation differing from the traditional treatments in the boundary element method (BEM) is presented, which we call the constant "node patch" method. Its application to solving the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) demonstrates considerable improvement in speed compared with the constant element and linear element methods. In addition, for the node-based BEMs, we propose an efficie...

Diffuse Optical Imaging (DOI), the study of the propagation of Near Infra-Red (NIR) light in biological media, is an emerging method in medical imaging. Its state-of-the-art is non-invasive, versatile and reasonably inexpensive. In Diffuse Optical Tomography (DOT), the adaptation of numerical methods such as the Finite Element Method (FEM) and, more recently the Boundary Element Method (BEM), h...

A Divide-and-Conquer Method for 3D Capacitance Extraction. (May 2004) Fangqing Yu, B.S., University of Electronics Science and Technology of China; Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Weiping Shi This thesis describes a divide-and-conquer algorithm to improve the 3D boundary element method (BEM) for capacitance extraction. We divide large interconnect structures into small sections, set new bounda...

In this paper the method and performance data of ‘Boundary Element Method (BEM)’-based SMS-LORETA (Simultaneous Multiple Sources LORETA) are presented. According to these data the method is capable of locating efficiently multiple simultaneously active neural sources from scalp potential topographies automatically. BEM-based SMS-LORETA is a procedure to fully interpret sLORETA solutions, i.e., ...

Electromagnetic (EM) nondestructive testing of a lossy dielectric material involves exciting the material with an external EM source, measuring responses on a measuring surface, and inferring the location, shapes and properties of possible flaws. But the interaction of electromagnetic fields with the material is a highly complex process. Three-dimensional computation is therefore required to ac...
