We present a mother and daughter with clinical and radiological findings consistent with the diagnosis of campomelic dysplasia. Milder tibial bowing and significant shortening of the phalangeal bones of both hands and feet may distinguish this from the classical autosomal recessive form of the disease.

The hardening which accompanies the plastic deformation of metals and all other crystalline materials is proposed to arise because the dislocations arrange themselves into gradually densifying networks, i.e. shorten in length, and therefore resist critical bowing-out, and hence further deformation, with increasing stress. [The SCI indicates that this paper was cited 103 times in the period 1961...

BACKGROUND The effectiveness of excision of osteochondromas in controlling the progression of forearm and wrist deformity remains an issue of controversy. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of tumor excision in the correction of forearm and wrist deformity due to multiple osteochondromas in children, with an interpretation of the results based on different patterns of de...

We are currently developing a physical modeling method for string instruments based upon the direct solution of the string equation, rather than the simulation of travelling waves as is instead done in the Waveguide method. Although computationally heavier in comparison with Waveguides, our approach enables any physical parameter to be time-varied during playing, obtaining thus interesting effe...

The transient behavior of a virtual bowed string is measured under different conditions of bow-force and bowvelocity onset. The results are compared with the constant-force, constant-velocity case, and with published physical measurements made using a bowing machine. Issues related to “playability” of virtual bowed-string instruments are discussed.

A 76-year-old man developed a hemoperitoneum after ERCP for choledocholithiasis. He underwent a laparotomy and splenectomy for a capsular tear at the splenic hilum, a rare complication of ERCP. "Bowing" of the endoscope with torsion on the greater curvature of the stomach may lead to shear forces causing splenic injury.

We report on a performance study of a French-Canadian fiddler. The fiddling tradition forms an interesting contrast to classical violin performance in several ways. Distinguishing features include special elements in the bowing technique and the presence of an accompanying foot clogging pattern. These two characteristics are described, visualized and analyzed using video and motion capture reco...

Abstract Bandgap engineering of compound semiconductors and the fabrication bandgap-modulated heterostructures are important for enabling development modern optoelectronics. However, these processes challenging two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenides, particularly on a large scale. Herein, we report wafer-scale homogeneous growth composition-modulated WS 2 x Se 2(1- ) alloys with ...

The band-gap energy and the band line-up of InGaAlAs quaternary compound material on InP are essential information for the theoretical study of physical properties and the design of optoelectronics devices operating in the long-wavelength communication window. The bandgap interpolation of In1 − x − yGaxAlyAs on InP is known to be a challenging task due to the observed discrepancy of experimenta...

As the thickness of silicon solar wafer and solar cells becomes thinner, the cells are subjected to high stress due to the thermal coefficient mismatch induced by metallization process. Handling and bowing problems associated with thinner wafers become increasingly important, as these can lead to cells cracking and thus to high yield losses. The goal of this work to provide experimental underst...
