In the recent study of infinite root systems, fractal patterns of ball packings were observed while visualizing roots in affine space. In fact, the observed fractals are exactly the ball packings described by Boyd and Maxwell. This correspondence is a corollary of a more fundamental result: given a geometric representation of a Coxeter group in Lorentz space, the set of limit directions of weig...

this paper reports the occurrence of the hymenoterous parasitoids of the beet moth, scrobipalpa ocellatella boyd larvae in iran for the first time. two braconid species of microchelonus subcontractus abdinbekova and bracon intercessor nees were collected from the larvae of s. ocellatella in the sugar beet fields located in ray, the southern district of tehran. these parasitoids are belonging to...

We prove the Lorentz-Shimogaki and Boyd theorems for the spaces Λu(w). As a consequence, we give the complete characterization of the strong boundedness of H on these spaces in terms of some geometric conditions on the weights u and w, whenever p > 1. For these values of p, we also give the complete solution of the weak-type boundedness of the Hardy-Littlewood operator on Λu(w).

A series of zwitterionic hybrid membranes were prepared via the ring opening of 1,3-propanesultone with the amine groups in the chains of TMSPEDA and a subsequent sol-gel process. Their kinetic models for strontium removal were investigated using three two-parameter kinetic equations (i.e., Lagergren pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and Elovich models). Adsorption mechanism was evaluate...

In this article we discuss lattice convexity and concavity of Calderón-Lozanovskii space Eφ , generated by a quasi-Banach space E and an increasing Orlicz function φ. We give estimations of convexity and concavity indices of Eφ in terms of Matuszewska-Orlicz indices of φ as well as convexity and concavity indices of E. In the case when Eφ is a rearrangement invariant space we also provide some ...

Let N∗(m) be the minimal length of a polynomial with ±1 coefficients divisible by (x − 1)m. Byrnes noted that N∗(m) ≤ 2m for each m, and asked whether in fact N∗(m) = 2m. Boyd showed that N∗(m) = 2m for all m ≤ 5, but N∗(6) = 48. He further showed that N∗(7) = 96, and that N∗(8) is one of the 5 numbers 96, 144, 160, 176, or 192. Here we prove that N∗(8) = 144. Similarly, let m∗(N) be the maxima...

LECTINS, phytagglutinins or seed agglutinins are now in common use in blood typing (cf. BIRD 1959; BOYD 1963). A classical example is lectin from lima beans which selectively agglutinates cells of type A of man in contrast to those of type B or 0. In 1959, BOYD, GREEN, FUJINAGA, DRABIK, and WASZCZENKO-ZACHARCZENKO reported a possible new blood factor in humans detected by an extract of the pean...
