We demonstrate a single-mode Brillouin fiber ring laser, which is passively stabilized at pump resonance frequency by using self-injection locking of semiconductor pump laser. Resonance condition for Stokes radiation is achieved by length fitting of Brillouin laser cavity. The laser generate singlefrequency Stokes wave with linewidth less than 0.5 kHz using approximately 17-m length cavity.
We present a new self-referenced and single-ended method to measure the Brillouin-gain coefficient in monomode optical fibers accurately with high reliability. Our comparative measurements on several different fibers show that a fiber with a smaller optical effective mode area can nevertheless have a higher Brillouin threshold, thus confirming the significance of acousto-optic effective mode area.
We demonstrate a high-resolution high-extinction parallel spectrometer for Brillouin spectroscopy of turbid samples. Cascading multiple VIPA etalons in the cross-axis configuration allowed us to achieve a high extinction ratio of up to 80 dB with sub-GHz resolution. Using a three-stage VIPA, we obtained the Brillouin spectra from Intralipid solutions at concentrations up to 10%.
Delaying and advancement of optical pulses using stimulated Brillouin scattering in As2Se3 fiber is demonstrated. Pulses can be delayed by 37 ns in a 5-m-long fiber with a pump power as low as 60 mW. 2006 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (999.9999) Slow light; (290.5900) Stimulated Brillouin scattering; (190.4370) Nonlinear optics, fibers; (190.2640) Frequency shifting
This paper reviews the major advances in Brillouin slow light devices along the last two years. We also focus on the positive and negative implications of this effect in the development of fiber sensors. © 2006 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (999.9999) Slow light; (060.4370) Nonlinear optics, fibers; (290.5900) Scattering, Brillouin
A fundamental limitation in high-resolution and long-range Brillouin optical timedomain systems is overcome in this paper, enabling 500k resolved points over 25 km of SMF with 5 cm spatial resolution in a usual acquisition time. Vector formalism for stimulated Brillouin scattering amplification in birefringent fibers is used to model the fiber as an equivalent, pseudo-linear, polarization-dependent gain medium. Implications on slow and fast light setups are discussed. ©2009 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (290.5900) Scattering, stimulated Brillouin; (120.5410) Polarimetry; (060.2300) Fiber measurements.
We propose a novel method to realize self-induced fast light and signal advancement with no distinct pump source in optical fibers, based on stimulated Brillouin scattering. This scheme can highly simplify real application systems. ©2007 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (060.4370) Nonlinear optics, fibers; (290.5900) Scattering, stimulated Brillouin; (350.5500) Propagation
We study the self-focusing and defocusing of a light beam carrying angular momentum (called twisted light) propa- gating in a nonlinear medium. We derive a differential equation for the beam width parameter f as a function of the propagation distance, angular frequency, beam waist and intensity of the beam. The method is based on the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin and the paraxial approximations. An...
Abstract. Band structure and optical properties of defectChalcopyrite type semiconductor ZnIn2Te4 have been studied by TB-LMTO first principle technique. The optical absorption calculation suggest that ZnIn2Te4 is a direct-gap semiconductor having a band gap of 1.40 eV., which confirms the experimentally measured value. The calculated complex dielectric-function ǫ(E) = ǫ1(E)+ iǫ2(E) reveal dist...
