The aim of this paper is to present viscoelastic models to accurately simulate mechanical stresses which result from volume expansion during thermal oxidation or temperature ramps in silicon technology. Comparisons are made with wafer curvature measurements and it is shown that mechanical stresses can explain the "anomalously" fast initial regime during dry oxidation, without involving any addi...

An iron-manganese co-oxide filter film (MeOx) has been proven to be a good catalyst for the chemical catalytic oxidation of ammonium in groundwater. Compared with groundwater, surface water is generally used more widely and has characteristics that make ammonium removal more difficult. In this study, MeOx was used to remove ammonium from surface water. It indicated that the average ammonium rem...

Oxidation-reduction reactions, simply referred as “redox” reactions, describe all the chemical reactions in which atoms have their oxidation state changed. This can either be a simple redox process like the oxidation of carbon (C) to carbon dioxide (CO2) or the reduction of C by hydrogen (H) to yield methane (CH4). However, in biology redox reactions are rather complex and ‘redox biology’ is fu...

The oxidation of the o-aminophenols, 2-amino-1-fluorenol, 3hydroxy-4-aminobiphenyl, and of o-aminophenol itself by cytochrome c and cytochrome oxidase in vitro has been shown to yield colored oxidation products with characteristic visible absorption spectra (2). The present paper is concerned with the identification of these products by chemical synthesis. The oxidation products of 3-hydroxy-4-...

The electrochemical stability vs. oxidation is a crucial property of anions in order to be suitable as components in lithium-ion batteries. Here the applicability of a number of computational approaches and methods to assess this property, employing a wide selection of DFT functionals, has been studied using the CCSD(T)/CBS method as the reference. In all, the vertical anion oxidation potential...

Tungsten oxidation worked as a simple chemical reaction for the effective detection of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine in DNA, distinguishing it from its epigenetic precursors, 5-methylcytosine and unmethylated cytosine. The tungsten-oxidation product obtained from 5-hydroxymethylcytosine was trihydroxylated thymine and was detected as a cleavage band in gel electrophoresis after treatment with hot pip...

The free-radical chemistry of sulfite oxidation is reviewed. Chemical transformations of organic and biological molecules induced by sulfite oxidation are summarized. The kinetics of the free-radical oxidations of sulfite are discussed, as are the kinetics of the reactions of the sulfite-derived radicals SO3 and the peroxy derivative SO5 with organic compounds.

The catalytic water-oxidation activity of Wilkinson's iridium acetate trimer (1) has been characterized electrochemically and by using chemical oxidants. We show that 1 can function as an operationally homogeneous water-oxidation catalyst when driven with sodium periodate as a primary oxidant, but rapidly decomposes using Ce(IV) as a primary oxidant.

An oxidation-responsive contrast agent for magnetic resonance imaging was synthesized using Eu(2+) and liposomes. Positive contrast enhancement was observed with Eu(2+), and chemical exchange saturation transfer was observed before and after oxidation of Eu(2+). Orthogonal detection modes render the concentration of Eu inconsequential to molecular information provided through imaging.

Benzoic acid, sorbic acid, and sodium lauryl sulfate at low concentrations (5 to 10 mg/liter) each effectively inhibited bacterial oxidation of ferrous iron in batch cultures of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. The rate of chemical oxidation of ferrous iron in low-pH, sterile batch reactors was not substantially affected at the tested concentrations (5 to 50 mg/liter) of any of the compounds.
