Cancer's cellular behavior is driven by alterations in the processes that cells use to sense and respond to diverse stimuli. Underlying these processes are a series of chemical processes (enzyme-substrate, protein-protein, etc.). Here we introduce a set of mathematical techniques for describing and characterizing these processes.

Chemical reaction networks (CRNs) provide a fundamental model in the study of molecular systems. Widely used as formalism for the analysis of chemical and biochemical systems, CRNs have received renewed attention as a model for molecular computation. This paper demonstrates that, with a new encoding, CRNs can compute any set of polynomial functions subject only to the limitation that these func...

Chemistry as an unconventional computing medium presently lacks a systematic approach to gather, store, and sort data over time. To build more complicated systems in chemistries, the ability to look at data in the past would be a valuable tool to perform complex calculations. In this paper we present the first implementation of a chemical delay line providing information storage in a chemistry ...

One of the fundamental problems in coding theory is to determine, for given set of parameters q, n and d, the value Aq(n,d), which is the maximum possible number of code words in a q-ary code of length n and minimum distance d. Codes that attain the maximum are said to be optimal. Being unknown for certain set of parameters, scientists have determined lower bounds, and researchers investigated ...

Poiseuille flow between parallel plates alters the shapes and velocities of chemical reaction fronts. In the narrow-gap limit, the cubic reaction-diffusion-advection equation predicts a front-velocity correction equal to the gap-averaged fluid velocity epsilon. In the singular wide-gap limit, the correction equals the midgap fluid velocity 3epsilon/2 when the flow is in the direction of propaga...

A new discipline of "systems chemistry" is emerging, which aims to capture the complexity observed in natural systems within a synthetic chemical framework. Living systems rely on complex networks of chemical reactions to control the concentration of molecules in space and time. Despite the enormous complexity in biological networks, it is possible to identify network motifs that lead to functi...

We study the effect of the variation of reaction efficiency in binary reactions. We use the well-known A + B → 0 model, which has been extensively studied in the past. We perform simulations on this model where we vary the efficiency of reaction, i.e., when two particles meet they do not instantly react, as has been assumed in previous studies, but they react with a probability γ, where γ is in...
