The growth and interdiffusion of Ti and Ni on a Mo( 110) surface have been studied by Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and temperature programmed desorption spectroscopy (TPD). Ti grows layer-by-layer upon deposition on MO{ 110) at 115 K, whereas annealing multifaye~ of Ti to 900 K causes formation of Ti three-dimensional clusters. Submonolayer Ti on Mo(...
In this paper we present results of a study of interdiffusion in HgTe/CdTe heterostructures. Our samples were grown by MBE at HRL Laboratories and had Cd x values ranging from 0.2 to 0.35. The samples were annealed at temperatures ranging from 250 °C to 425 °C in both Hg vapor and vacuum ambients. The samples annealed under vacuum were coated with a layer of CdTe prior to annealing. The data we...
Coalescence theory predicts when genetic drift at nuclear loci will result in fixation of sequence differences to produce monophyletic gene trees. However, the theory is difficult to apply to particular taxa because it hinges on genetically effective population size, which is generally unknown. Neutral theory also predicts that evolution of monophyly will be four times slower in nuclear than in...
Steric Effects in Ionic Pairing and Polyelectrolyte Interdiffusion within Multilayered Films: A Neutron Reflectometry Study Li Xu, John F. Ankner,* and Svetlana A. The perovskite CH3NH3PbI3 was prepared on a mesoscopic TiO2 film, starting from electrodepositing PbO, to iodination to PbI2, and then interdiffusion reaction with CH3NH3I. The as-prepared film was used as a light absorber for the perovskite solar cells, exhibiting a high PCE of 12.5% under standard AM 1.5 conditions.
Drop coalescence is central to diverse processes involving dispersions of drops in industrial, engineering, and scientific realms. During coalescence, two drops first touch and then merge as the liquid neck connecting them grows from initially microscopic scales to a size comparable to the drop diameters. The curvature of the interface is infinite at the point where the drops first make contact...
In this work the model of droplets coalescence in liquid/liquid dispersions in flow through fibrous media is proposed. It is derived for the computation cell being a cubicoid that comprises a single mesh gap and equal volumes upstream and downstream, which size corresponds to a packing factor of the filter media. The numerical approach takes into account deposition of droplets on the fibres as ...
Aerosol reactors pass through regimes where subsets of the population balance terms are dominant. Initially, mixing, reaction, nucleation and accretional growth dominate. This is generally followed by a regime in which coagulation and coalescence control evolution of the particle population into sintered aggregates. Conventionally, the boundary between regimes where coalescence is or is not imp...
Quark number scaling of v2 in transverse kinetic energy and it’s implications for coalescence models
We find that a simple extension of the coalescence model is sufficient to incorporate the perfect quark number scaling behavior of the elliptic flow in transverse kinetic energy, recently discovered by the PHENIX Collaboration. The flavor dependence of the elliptic flow can be consistently described in the low and intermediate pT if the transverse kinetic energy is conserved in the 2 → 1 or 3 →...
