In this note, we describe an error in the proof for CLRW2 given by Landecker et al. in their paper at CRYPTO 2012 on the beyond-birthday-bound security for tweakable block ciphers. We are able to resolve the issue, give a new bound for the security of CLRW2, and identify a potential limitation of this proof technique when looking to extend the scheme to provide asymptotic security.
M. Naor (Ed.): TCC 2004, LCNS 2951, pages 336 352, February 2004. c © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004. Abstract. We consider compositional properties of reactive systems that are secure in a cryptographic sense. We follow the well-known simulatability approach of modern cryptography, i.e., the specification is an ideal system and a real system should in some sense simulate this ideal one...
[1] A size effect law for fracture triggering in dry snow slabs of high enough length-tothickness ratio is formulated, based on simplified one-dimensional analysis by equivalent linear elastic fracture mechanics. Viscoelastic effects during fracture are neglected. The derived law, which is analogous to Bažant’s energetic size effect law developed for concrete and later for sea ice, fiber compos...
The performance of the interface between fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composites and concrete is one of the key factors affecting the behavior of strengthened reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Existing laboratory research has shown that RC beams strengthened with FRP sheets usually fail because of either debonding of the impregnated fabric from the concrete substrate or fracture of the FRP...
Modeling the complex behavior of concrete for a specific mixture is a challenging task, as it requires bridging the cement scale and the concrete scale. We describe a multiscale analysis procedure for the modeling of concrete structures, in which material properties at the macro scale are evaluated based on lower scales. Concrete may be viewed over a range of scale sizes, from the atomic scale ...
This paper describes a web-based finite element program called portal of damage. The purpose of the program is the numerical simulation of reinforced concrete framed structures, typically buildings, under earthquakes or others exceptional overloads. The program has so far only one finite element based on lumped damage mechanics. This is a theory that combines fracture mechanics, damage mechanic...
Abstract Fracture mechanics of concrete is a complex matter still thoroughly researched from different angles. It not an easy task to describe fracture process in concrete, as there are many factors affecting crack development and propagation. Practical applications could allow engineers design structures more effectively safely. At the minimum, it help estimate “safe” period time left before u...
