The binuclear title complex, [Cu(2)Cl(4)(C(14)H(14)N(2))(2)], is located on a crystallographic inversion centre. The Cu(II) ion is in a distorted square-pyramid coordination environment formed by the bichelating N-heterocyclic ligand, two bridging Cl atoms and one terminal Cl atom. One of the bridging Cu-Cl bonds is significantly longer than the other.

Ion homeostasis plays important roles in development of metabolic diseases. In the present study, we examined the contents and distributions of 25 ions in chicken muscles following treatment with selenium (Se) deficiency for 25 days. The results revealed that in chicken muscles, the top ranked microelements were silicon (Si), iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), aluminum (Al), copper (Cu) and boron (B), showi...

In the title mononuclear coordination complex, [CuFe(C(5)H(5))(C(9)H(5)F(3)O(2))(C(18)H(15)P)(2)], the Cu(I) ion is coordinated by the chelating β-diketonate 1-ferrocenyl-4,4,4-trifluoro-butane-1,3-dione ligand through two O atoms and the two datively bonded triphenyl-phosphane ligands resulting in a distorted tetra-hedral coordination sphere. The Cu(I) ion, together with its chelating butane-1...

Increased atmospheric CO(2) concentrations are causing greater dissolution of CO(2) into seawater, and are ultimately responsible for today's ongoing ocean acidification. We manipulated seawater acidity by addition of HCl and by increasing CO(2) concentration and observed that two coastal harpacticoid copepods, Amphiascoides atopus and Schizopera knabeni were both more sensitive to increased ac...

In the title compound, [Cu(C(7)H(4)ClO(2))(2)(C(5)H(6)N(2))(2)], each Cu(II) ion, located on an inversion center, has a slightly distorted square-planar coordination geometry formed by two 1-vinyl-imidazole mol-ecules [Cu-N = 1.954 (6) Å] and two 2-chloro-benzoate anions [Cu-O = 1.958 (6) Å]. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds contribute to the crystal packing stability.

Collective flow reflects dynamical evolution in high-energy heavy ion collisions. In particular, the strange hadron elliptic flow reflects early collision dynamics [ 1]. We present results from a systematic analysis of the centrality dependence of strange hadron elliptic flow (v 2) measurement of K 0 S , Λ and Ξ for Cu + Cu collisions at 200 GeV. Results for Cu + Cu collisions are compared with...

High-intensity ultrashort laser pulses focused on metal targets readily generate hot dense plasmas which accelerate ions efficiently and can pave way to compact table-top accelerators. Laser-driven ion acceleration studies predominantly focus on protons, which experience the maximum acceleration owing to their highest charge-to-mass ratio. The possibility of tailoring such schemes for the prefe...

The molecular mechanism of neurodegeneration in transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) remains unclear. Using radioactive copper ((64)Cu) at physiological concentration, we showed that prion infected cells display a marked reduction in copper binding. The level of full-length prion protein known to bind the metal ion was not modified in infected cells, but a fraction of this protein w...

The presence of the single metals (Cd, Pb, Cu, Zn) induces ROS (reactive oxygen species) production and causes oxidative stress in plants. While applied in two-element combinations, trace metals impact organisms in a more complex way. To assess the resultant effect we treated the pea grown hydroponically with the trace metals in variants: CuPb, CuCd, CuZn, PbCd, ZnPb, ZnCd in concentrations of ...
