Cypress pollen represents the primary cause of respiratory allergies in Mediterranean areas. Patients allergic to Cupressus sempervirens pollen (Cups) (CPA) can be discriminated on the basis of the immunoglobulin E (IgE) binding to a basic 14 kDa protein (BP14) or to high-molecular-weight (HMW) glycoproteins only. Specific IgE repertoires of two differentially exposed CPA cohorts, French and It...

We have studied the presence in the environment of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) in the city of Granada using room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP) applied to microemulsions. A detailed study into the different compositions of several normal microemulsion together with experimental variables (heavy atom, deoxygenate agent, pH) and instrumental parameters (wavelengths...

this paper deals with the suitability of agricultural and municipal organic wastes as growing media components for ornamental plants. nine growing media prepared by mixing the main components of peat (p), hazelnut husk (h) and maize straw (m) with the fertilizer sources of municipal solid waste compost (c), bio-solid (b) and poultry manure (pm) were compared against soil-based (c1) and peat-bas...

Juvenile plants often have tight microhabitat associations because of specific requirements for seed germination and subsequent establishment. Due to their larger size, adults may be more adept at coping with stress. However, few studies consider the role of ontogeny in structuring plant populations, even though phenotypic expression can change through life history. In cypress-tupelo swamps of ...

BACKGROUND Pollen is an important trigger of allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, and/or asthma, and an exacerbating factor in atopic dermatitis. Although it is proposed that protease activity from allergen sources, such as mites, enhances allergenicity, little information is available on that from relevant allergenic pollens such as Japanese cedar and Japanese cypress pollens, which are the majo...

The feeding preferences of the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki, were tested in three separate experiments on 28 different wood species. Experiment 1 was a multiple-choice test designed to test relative preferences among 24 wood species commercially available in New Orleans, LA. Experiment 2 was a similar study designed to test relative preferences among 21 wood spe...

WETLANDS, a multidimensional model describing water flow in variably saturated soil and evapotranspiration, was used to simulate successfully 3-years of local hydrology for a cypress pond located within a relatively flat Coastal Plain pine forest landscape. Assumptions included negligible net regional groundwater flow and radially symmetric local flow impinging on a truncated conical pond, deci...

We used pollen assemblages to reconstruct late-Holocene paleohydrologic patterns in floodplain deposits from the lower Roanoke River basin (North Carolina, southeastern USA). Using 120 surface samples from 38 transects, we documented statistical relationships between pollen assemblages, vegetation, and landforms. Backswamp pollen assemblages (long hydroperiods) are dominated by Nyssa (tupelo) a...

We present benchmark results of optimized dense matrix multiplication kernels for Cypress GPU. We write general matrix multiply (GEMM) kernels for single (SP), double (DP) and double-double (DDP) precision. Our SGEMM and DGEMM kernels show ∼ 2 Tflop/s and ∼ 470 Glop/s, respectively. These results for SP and DP correspond to 73% and 87% of the theoretical performance of the GPU, respectively. Cu...
