Surface litter from a natural and a sewage-enriched cypress dome in north-central Florida showed a pronounced seasonal pattern of nitrogenase (acetylene reduction) activity associated with seasonal leaf fall from deciduous trees in the domes. Samples of peat from cores indicated negligible nitrogenase activity below the surface layer. Integrating the monthly rates of nitrogen fixation (based on...
The reason for the increase in food allergy are unknow. due the short period of time that has been presented, it is suggested tan enviranmental factors have greater impact than genetics. The geographical conditions of Queretaro and having a large industrial corridor are risk factors for development of allergy problems. In Mexico there are no prevalence studies of food allergies and therefore the...
In southwest Georgia, wetlands can be classified based on source of inundation and vegetation. Depressional wetlands are inundated predominantly through rainfall and are identified as grass-sedge marshes, cypress savannas, and cypress-gum swamps. Riparian sloughs, composed of cypress and gum, occur along river corridors and are flooded when rivers are at high flow. During 1998-2000, we sampled ...
This paper reports on an experiment in which a Sun 3/50 workstation was used as a packet switch in a leased line based network. We conclude that the Sun is both capable and cost effective. • This work was supported in part by gnmts Iran the National &::iCJlee Foundation's Office. of Advanced Sc:iCJltifie Computing (NSF·851·8639), with addilional supportIrom Digital Equipment CoTpOllltion, CSNET...
Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens L. var. horizontalis) is one of the native conifers in Iran. It is found in Tange Soulak Forest Reserve of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran. An experiment in a completely randomized design with factorial 4×2×2 was performed to assess the factors affecting Cupressus sempervirens seed germination. Dieback, slope, and altitude were analyzed at four, two, an...
The cypress jewel beetle, Ovalisia festiva L. (Coleoptera: Buprestidae, Chrysochroinae), and the bark Phloeosinus aubei Perris Curculionidae, Scolytinae), are invasive wood-boring pests of scale-leafed conifers (Cupressaceae), threatening tree nurseries urban green areas. In order to reveal which volatile compounds their common host, American arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis cultivar ‘Smaragd’, t...
Gastrointestinal tracts and lungs of 140 moose (Alces alces) and 186 wapiti (Cervus elaphus) from Cypress Hills, Alberta, were examined for helminth parasites. Moose were infected with nine species of parasites, including six nematodes, two cestodes, and one trematode. Wapiti were infected with 10 species, including eight nematodes and two cestodes. Six of the total of 13 species found co-occur...
The bacterium Paenibacillus sp. strain MY03, isolated from the root soil of cypress, can effectively degrade marine-derived polysaccharides such as agar, alginate, and chitin. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of MY03. Putative enzymes, including 3 agarases, 1 alginate lyase, and 1 chitinase, were found.
