Calmodulin (CaM) is a ubiquitous Ca(2+)-binding protein consisting of two structurally similar domains with distinct stabilities, binding affinities, and flexibilities. We present coarse grained simulations that suggest that the mechanism for the domain's allosteric transitions between the open and closed conformations depends on subtle differences in the folded state topology of the two domain...
Cullen T, et al. BMJ Case Rep 2017. doi:10.1136/bcr-2016-217940 Description This case report describes a baby who was diagnosed antenatally with a significant left-sided congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation. Following diagnosis of a fluid-filled, macrocystic structure on the left side of the chest, the mother was referred at 27 weeks’ gestation to her regional fetal medicine unit for asse...
Two new mariner transposon delivery vector systems, pMarA333 and pMarB333, had been constructed to randomly mutagenize Bacillus thuringiensis in vivo. The results showed that both systems could randomly insert into the genome of B. thuringiensis YBT881 (CCAM 020673). These systems could have potential for further construction of mutant libraries of B. thuringiensis and other Bacillus strains.
A new French coding system of clinical procedures, the Classification Commune Des Actes Medicaux (CCAM), has been developed at the turn of the millennium (between 1996 and 2001). Two methodologies were used: a traditional domain-experts consensus method, and an artificial-intelligence-based semantic representation. An economic evaluation of clinical procedures was also undertaken for the rating...
Pulmonary arteriovenous fistula (PAVF) is abnormally dilated vessels that provide a right-to-left shunt between pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein and is clinically divided into simple and complex type. Here, we report four cases of surgically resected sporadic PAVFs presenting various clinical and histologic spectrums. Cases 1 (a 57-old-female) and 2 (a 54-old-female) presented as incidentall...
UNLABELLED Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM) is an uncommon, nonhereditary anomaly caused by arrest of lung. Patients with CCAM may present with respiratory distress as newborns, or may remain asymptomatic until later in life. CCAM type I is rarely found in association with bronchial atresia (BA) in adults; we present such a case. CASE A 54-year-old female presented with chron...
