We report the electrical conductivity enhancement of a perylene-based MOF upon partial ligand oxidation. The is rationalised by quantum-chemical calculations, supporting through-space hopping transport.
Cooperative aggregation of monomers into one-dimensional nanostructures typically results in elongated objects. Here we analyse in depth the self-assembly of an N-monoarylated perylene bisimide which shows characteristics of a cooperative growth mechanism but unexpectedly yields objects of small size, due to anti-cooperativity by attenuated growth.
Perylene bisimides (PBIs) self-assemble in solution. The solubility of the PBIs is commonly changed through the choice of substituents at the imide positions. It is generally assumed this substitution does not affect the electronic properties of the PBI, and that the properties of the self-assembled aggregate are essentially that of the isolated molecule. However, substituents do affect the sel...

Chloroform-vapor annealing of thin films of propoxyethyl perylene tetracarboxylic diimide (PE-PTCDI, an n-type semiconductor) deposited on glass or mica leads to formation of well-defined one-dimensional self-assemblies (e.g. nanobelts), which show optically uniaxial properties as demonstrated by the linearly polarized emission.
Controlled aggregation of perylene bisimides in multiple modes has been achieved via symmetric substitution with peptides. Using optical probes of aggregation, the balance of hydrophobic and electrostatic forces are found to play a key role in directing self assembly and are exploited via solvent, pH, and specific extrinsic ion effects.
We report the synthesis of a soluble perylene-based small molecule for use as an n-type emissive material for organic optoelectronic device applications, and demonstrate the material in a light-emitting electrochemical cell configuration.
Antimonene, a novel group 15 two-dimensional material, is functionalized with a tailormade perylene bisimide through strong van der Waals interactions. The functionalization process leads to a significant quenching of the perylene fluorescence, and surpasses that observed for either graphene or black phosphorus, thus allowing straightforward characterization of the flakes by scanning Raman micr...
In this letter, we report the single-molecule conductance properties of a cyano-functionalized perylene-diimide derivative (PDI8-CN2) investigated with gold nano-electrodes. This molecule is of large interest for the fabrication of high-performance and air-stable n-type organic field-effect transistors. Low-bias experiments performed on mechanically controllable break junctions reveal the prese...
Laminated nanotapes were fabricated via conformation specific self-assembly of two N-annulated perylene derivatives (NPDs). The assemblies in solvated states were characterized using cryogenic transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM), and their nanostructures were modulated by the synergistic interactions of π-π stacking and hydrogen bonds.
