In laboratory experiments we demonstrate that protoplasmic tubes of acellular slime mould Physarum polycephalum show current versus voltage profiles consistent with memristive systems. This result complements previous findings on memristive properties of other living systems (human skin and blood and leaves) and contributes to development of self-growing bioelectronic circuits.

For efficient manufacture of moulds and dies and in order to meet the unstable market situation, a well organised reconfigurable manufacturing system is required. The geometric features of moulds and dies are not the same as discrete parts. They are contained elements on a block of steel and are usually in the form of contours, slots, corners, slope faces, curved surfaces and cavities. A lot of...

The meniscus is a fibrocartilaginous tissue that is critically important to the loading patterns within the knee joint. If the meniscus structure is compromised, there is little chance of healing, due to limited vascularity in the inner portions of the tissue. Several tissue-engineering techniques to mimic the complex geometry of the meniscus have been employed. Of these, a self-assembly, scaff...

Both dermatophyte and non-dermatophyte fungi can colonise and invade the keratin of skin, nail and hair. The fungal morphological forms that adhere to these keratinaceous substrates are most probably arthroconidia and hyphal fragments in association with exfoliated corneocytes. Towards a greater understanding of the ability of fungi to utilise keratin we have developed a series of experimetal m...

throughout the world, there has been an increasing incidence of fungal infections, and because of drug resistance and toxicity associated with long-term treatment with antifungal drugs search for new drugs to treat fungal infections is ongoing. the aim of this study was to evaluate the physicochemical properties and stability of creams containing different concentrations of zataria multiflora e...

The " discovery " of penicillin by Fleming in 1928 and its dramatic production, urged on by the necessities of war, heralded a new era of therapeutics. It has changed the pattern of disease the prognosis of infections, the expectation of life, indeed, it has changed the whole human ecology. Before the discovery of penicillin, there were many early descriptions of the characteristics and propert...

Standardization of a fragmented dermatophyte mycelial inoculum free of conidia for use in a broth microculture antimycotic susceptibility testing system is described. Ten clinical dermatophyte isolates were grown in submerged broth cultures at 35 degrees C. The mycelia were harvested before conidia appeared and were fragmented to 10 to 50-micron segments with a Broeck ground-glass tissue grinde...
