Multidrug resistant tuberculosis has been a challenging situation in the clinical practice with respect to appropriate clinical treatment and management of the disease. The likelihood of resistance development is known to be lower in lesions with lesser percentages of the bacterial population. The present paper was designed to present a rare case of pulmonary multidrug resistant tuberculosis wi...

BACKGROUND Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) has emerged as a major challenge toward TB control and prevention. In Lianyungang city, the extent and trend of drug resistant TB is not well known. The objective of the survey was to assess drug resistance pattern of MTB and risk factors for drug resistant TB, including multidrug resistance tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in this area. METHODS We performed d...

Objective: In view of the national key project for infectious diseases “ the retreatment research of tuberculosis”, we determined the in vitro anti-mycobacterial activity of four drugs in the treatment, pasiniazid (Pa), moxifloxacin (Mfx), Rifabutin (Rfb) and rifapentini (Rft) in combination to multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant mycobacterium tuberculosis. Method: Three-dimensio...

BACKGROUND The epidemics of HIV-1 and tuberculosis in South Africa are closely related. High mortality rates in co-infected patients have improved with antiretroviral therapy, but drug-resistant tuberculosis has emerged as a major cause of death. We assessed the prevalence and consequences of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) tuberculosis in a rural area in KwaZulu ...

conclusions review of the studies revealed that levels of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis among new tuberculosis patients are increasing in iran and the vaccination system needs to be reformed. because of the increasing number of patients coming from neighboring countries with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, this area needs more stewardship and control in order to prevent the outbreak of mul...

To estimate the prevalence of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR TB) in China, we retrospectively analyzed drug-resistance profiles of 989 clinical Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates. We found 319 (32.3%) isolates resistant to ≥1 first-line drugs; 107 (10.8%) isolates were multidrug resistant, of which 20 (18.7%) were XDR. XDR TB is of major concern in China.

There are currently many patients with multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis. Ongoing transmission of the highly drug-resistant strains and high mortality despite treatment remain problematic. The current strategy of drug discovery and development takes up to a decade to bring a new drug to clinical use. We embarked on a strategy to screen all antibiotics in current us...

Culture and resistance testing of Mycobacterium tuberculosis are not regularly performed in Chad. Sputa were obtained from three different categories of hospitals (district, regional and national) in Chad. All examined sputa were smear-positive and were investigated by culture and drug resistance testing for first-line antituberculosis drugs. From 232 sputa positive for acid-fast bacilli, 135 i...

PURPOSE Investigate drug resistant rate in recurrent cases after cure, or after drop-out from treatment, and the analysis of the risk factors for acquired drug resistance in these cases. OBJECT Patients who were previously treated for tuberculosis that was drug sensitive or unknown about previous drug sensitivity, and were hospitalized to Fukujuji Hospital to start treatment for recurrent tub...
