The aim of this paper is to present and analyze a new direct method for solving the linear elasticity inverse problem. Given measurements some displacement fields inside medium, we show that stable reconstruction elastic parameters possible, even discontinuous without boundary information. We provide general approach based on weak definition stiffness-toforce operator which conduces see problem...

The motility of microorganisms is influenced greatly by their hydrodynamic interactions with the fluidic environment they inhabit. We show by direct experimental observation of the bi-flagellated alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii that fluid elasticity and viscosity strongly influence the beating pattern - the gait - and thereby control the propulsion speed. The beating frequency and the wave speed...

a new three-dimensional unit cell model has been developed for modeling three constituent phases including inclusion, interphase and matrix. the total elastic modulus of nano-composite is evaluated.  numerical results are in good agreement with the previous proposed theoretical modeling. higher matrix and inclusion elastic modulus both can dramatically influence the total elastic modulus.

Measurements with a guillotine psychrometer (H Nonami, JS Boyer [1990] Plant Physiol 94: 1601-1609) indicate that the inhibition of stem growth at low water potentials (low psi(w)) is accompanied by decreases in cell wall extensibility and tissue hydraulic conductance to water that eventually limit growth rate in soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.). To check this conclusion, we measured cell wall pr...

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of massage treatment plus 24hours of elastic calf compression on delayed onset of muscle soreness following maximum calf-raise exercises during three consecutive days. METHODS: Fourteen female students (aged 20–22 yr) who had regularly performed moderate exercise were submitted to maximum calf-raise exercises of 1 movement per 3 seconds till exhaustion. Seven...

The aim of the present study was to prepare an oral tablet from liquid yogurt by reforming the physical properties for easy transportation, long-term storage and also as a complementary dairy product in case of nutrient deficiency. The liquid fresh yogurt was lyophilized at -40°C and 0.03 mTor pressure. The dry powder was homogenized by a 12 mesh size sieve. Some tests such as Carr's compressib...

Hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH) causes extralobar pulmonary artery (PA) stiffening, which potentially impairs right ventricular systolic function. Changes in the extracellular matrix proteins collagen and elastin have been suggested to contribute to this arterial stiffening. We hypothesized that vascular collagen accumulation is a major cause of extralobar PA stiffening in HPH and tested o...

A superelasticity (shape memory) behavior has been discovered for the superlattice-structured ZnO nanohelices. By in situ manipulation using a nanoprobe, the nanohelix could elastically recover its shape after an extremely large axial stretching to a degree close to the theoretical limit, while suffering little residual plastic deformation. As a result, its spring constant can be increased cont...

OBJECTIVE Effects of pacing-induced tachycardia on left ventricular function have been studied extensively. However, little attention has been focused on aortic elastic properties during heart rate increments. The aim was to determine the effects of right ventricular pacing on the aortic elastic properties. METHODS We studied 14 normal subjects (baseline blood pressure, 129/84 +/- 10/6 mmHg; ...
