We study the brane world cosmology in the RS2 model where the electric charge varies with time in the manner described by the varying fine-structure constant theory of Bekenstein. We map such varying electric charge cosmology to the dual variablespeed-of-light cosmology by changing system of units. We comment on cosmological implications for such cosmological models.

I review recent progress in understanding the structure of the nucleon sea and the role of the nucleon’s pion cloud. In particular, I discuss the consequences of the pion cloud for the d̄ − ū asymmetry in the proton, the neutron’s electric form factor, and the proton’s electric to magnetic form factor ratio.

The shape of TESLA accelerating structure can be improved to decrease maximal surface magnetic field by sacrificing and increasing maximal surface electric field. This sacrifice may be necessary because the magnetic field is a hard limit but electric field emission can be decreased by processing. For the case of superconducting cavities RF magnetic strength should be of a more concern.

We present a scheme for the determination of the vector nature of an electric field by optical second-harmonic generation. We demonstrate the technique by mapping the two-dimensional electric-field vector of a biased transmission line structure on silicon with a spatial resolution of ~10mum .

We investigate the electric field-induced assembly of Janus colloids composed of silica rods patterned with gold patches in both side- and tip-coated motifs. These shape and chemically anisotropic particles assemble into reconfigurable chains, whose structure depends on patch location, AC electric field strength, and frequency.
