Thieno[3,2-b]thienobis(silolothiophene), a new electron rich hexacyclic monomer has been synthesized and incorporated into three novel donor-acceptor low-bandgap polymers. By carefully choosing the acceptor co-monomer, the energy levels of the polymers could be modulated and high power conversion efficiencies of 5.52% were reached in OPV devices.

A novel acceptor, (3E,7E)-3,7-bis(2-oxoindolin-3-ylidene)-5,7-dihydropyrrolo[2,3-f]indole-2,6(1H,3H)-dione, was reported. Donor-acceptor (D-A) polymer semiconductors using this new building block showed high ambipolar charge transport performance with hole and electron mobilities up to 0.19 and 0.09 cm(2) V(-1) s(-1), respectively, in thin film transistors.

A new evaporable electron acceptor material for organic photovoltaics based on N-ethyl barbituric acid bithiophene (EBB) has been demonstrated. Bilayer devices fabricated with this non-fullerene acceptor and boron subphthalocyanine chloride (SubPc) donor produce power conversion efficiencies as high as 2.6% with an extremely large open-circuit voltage approaching 1.4 V.

Organic donor-bridge-acceptor dyads consisting of a triphenyldiamine donor that was linked to a perylenebisimide acceptor by a flexible nonconjugated bridge have been investigated by complementary spectroscopic techniques as a function of the length and the polarity of the linker. Time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy revealed a quenching of the donor emission accompanied by a corresponding r...

Cathodoluminescence spectra recorded with high spatial and wavelength resolution on tilted ZnO epitaxial layers allow to identify a very prominent emission peak at 3.314 eV as a free electron to shallow acceptor (E A % 130 meV) transition. By correlation with TEM cross-section images recorded on the same samples we can find these acceptor states to be located on basal plane stacking faults (BSF...
