OBJECTIVES The outcomes of emergency cardiac transplantation remain controversial, but recipient selection is essential for success. With a shortage of organs, it is essential to determine an objective method, such as a risk score, for choosing patients who are at too great a risk to undergo cardiac transplantation. In this study, we analysed the model for end-stage liver disease in terms of pr...

An increasing number of patients have advanced coronary artery disease with ischemic symptoms that are refractory to medical therapy and revascularization. With the increasing adoption of percutaneous revascularization of chronic total occlusions, previously nonrevascularizable vessels may now be targets for revascularization, which may change the landscape of refractory angina. Several nonphar...

The model for end stage liver disease (MELD) system prioritizes deceased donor organs to the sickest patients who historically require higher healthcare expenditures. Limited information exists regarding the association of recipient MELD score with resource use. Adult recipients of a primary liver allograft (n = 222) performed at a single center in the first 27 months of the MELD system were an...

Unstable Angina To the Editor: We appreciate the work by Ferreirós et al in confirming the strong prognostic value of C-reactive protein (CRP) in unstable angina. However, we believe that some issues should be raised. First, the authors did not exclude patients with Braunwald type C unstable angina and they did not provide an explanation of this choice. Class C unstable angina has a strong prog...

C-reactive protein (CRP) response was studied in 44 patients with acute angina pectoris admitted to the coronary care unit. 71 % of patients with acute myocardial infarction (MI)had positive CRP test while 73% of patients presumed to have unstable angina pectoris had negative CRP test. This test can be helpful in differentiating between acute MI and unstable angina pectoris.

An increase in left ventricular diastolic pressure has been repeatedly observed during angina in patients with coronary artery stenoses and regional demand ischemia, but the role of relaxation abnormalities versus left ventricular segmental dyssynchrony is controversial. In contrast, patients with angina due to aortic stenosis are likely to have diffuse rather than segmental ischemia and thus m...

BACKGROUND Chronic angina is a profoundly symptomatic disease. We evaluated the relationship between angina frequency and health utility. METHODS We used data from stable angina patients reporting ≥3 attacks/week enrolled in the Efficacy of Ranolazine in Chronic Angina (ERICA) trial. Angina frequency was classified using the Seattle Angina Questionnaire angina frequency (SAQAF) domain into no...
