An unprecedented oxidative cross-esterification in an equimolar mixture of dithiolanes, alcohols and water through a CDC/deprotection sequence has been developed. The reaction itself features simple experimental procedures under very mild conditions and offers a new strategic protocol for the direct and efficient synthesis of structurally diverse esters.

A novel series of imidazol-5-yl carbinols and their 4-chlorobenzoyl esters has been synthesized by the Grignard reaction and subsequent esterification. These compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activities in an agar diffusion assay. The compounds with C10 to C12-alkyl side chains displayed significant antimycotic activity.

Various Mitsunobu conditions were investigated for a series of flavonolignans (silybin A, silybin B, isosilybin A, and silychristin A) to achieve either selective esterification in position C-23 or dehydration in a one-pot reaction yielding the biologically important enantiomers of hydnocarpin D, hydnocarpin and isohydnocarpin, respectively. This represents the only one-pot semi-synthetic metho...

Orthogonally protected monosaccharide building blocks have been prepared using TCT in a one-pot multicomponent transformation. The process involves successive steps of arylidene acetalation, esterification and regioselective reductive acetal cleavage. High regioselectivity, scope for using a broad range of substrates, functional group tolerance, mild reaction conditions, easy handling process a...

Rat adipose-tissue glycerol phosphate acyltransferase can be inactivated in a phosphorylation reaction catalysed by cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase and reactivated by treatment with alkaline phosphatase. These results suggest that phosphorylation of glycerol phosphate acyltransferase may be involved in the hormonal control of esterification.

An oxidative methyl esterification of aldehydes was effectively achieved. The trivalent indium reagent, indium(III) triflate, was revealed to accelerate the reactions in many cases. Aromatic aldehydes with various substituents were subjected to this method, and each produced the corresponding methyl esters in good to excellent yields within a relatively short reaction time.

Waste cooking oil (WCO) was used as a potential feedstock for biodiesel production. High levels of free fatty acids (9.85% w/w) in WCO made it an undesirable substrate for direct transesterification reaction. To solve this issue, a two-step process was implemented in this research. Firstly, esterification reaction was performed in presence of sulfuric acid as a common acid catalyst to reduce th...

Production of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) from palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) having high free fatty acids (FFA) was investigated in this work. Batch esterifications of PFAD were carried out to study the influence of: including reaction temperatures of 70–100 1C, molar ratios of methanol to PFAD of 0.4:1–12:1, quantity of catalysts of 0–5.502% (wt of sulfuric acid/wt of PFAD) and reaction...

Cellulose nanocrystals were converted into ratiometric pH-sensing nanoparticles by dual fluorescent labelling employing a facile one-pot procedure. A simple and versatile three-step procedure was also demonstrated extending the number of fluorophores available for grafting. In this method an amine group was introduced via esterification followed by a thiol-ene click reaction.

We demonstrate the application of a multicatalyst to the oxidation of a broad variety of aldehydes and subsequent enantioselective esterification of the incipient acids with (±)-trans-cycloalkane-1,2-diols. This reaction operates well with a multicatalyst bearing two independent catalytic moieties that provide monoprotected 1,2-diols in one pot.
