In this paper, we approach the problem of image filter design automation using a kind of intrinsic evolvable hardware architecture. For the purpose of implementing the intrinsic evolution process in a common FPGA chip and evolving a complicated digital circuit system-image filter, the design automation system employs the reconfigurable circuit architecture as the reconfigurable component of the...

Evolvable Hardware (EHW) is an attractive topic recently because it can reconfigure itself to adapt to the environment embedded. An EHW uses genetic algorithm, one of evolutionary algorithms to search the goal hardware. In this paper, we propose an EHW using speciated GA that can evolve diverse circuits with one-step evolution. Speciation algorithm helps finding diverse solutions as the result ...

Reconfigurable hardware devices make it possible to change the topology of electronic circuits at runtime. Using reconfigurable devices as a platform for Evolvable hardware (EHW) is well suited for real-time adaptive systems. This paper contains a novel approach on how to evolve the parameters for an adaptive digital filter. Both the filter as well as the evolution is implemented in a single Fi...

Evolvable hardware (EHW) is a set of techniques that are based on the idea of combining reconfiguration hardware systems with evolutionary algorithms. In other word, EHW has two sections; the reconfigurable hardware and evolutionary algorithm where the configurations are under the control of an evolutionary algorithm. This paper, suggests a method to design and optimize the synchronous sequenti...

We motivate and describe an analog evolvable hardware design platform named GRACE (i.e. Generative Robust Analog Circuit Exploration). GRACE combines coarse-grained, topological circuit search with intrinsic testing on a Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) field programmable device, the Anadigm AN221E04. It is suited for adaptive, fault tolerant system design as well as CAD flow applications.

This paper describes the design and implementation of an experimental evolvable hardware platform. It presents the main technical considerations that overcome some problems, such as the partial configuration of a programmable logic device, and the experiments execution through the type D parallel port. Furthermore, some experimental results are presented in order to evaluate the performance of ...

Evolvable Hardware (EHW) has been proposed as a new method for designing systems for real-world applications. In this paper it is applied for evolving a prosthetic hand controller. It is shown that better generalization performance than neural networks can be obtained. The proposed architecture is based on digital logic gates and its configuration is determined by two separate steps of evolution.

Synchronous finite state machines are very important for digital sequential designs. Among other important aspects, they represent a powerful way for synchronising hardware components so that these components may cooperate adequately in the fulfillment of the main objective of the hardware design. In this paper, we propose an evolutionary methodology synthesis finite state machines. First, we o...

Traditionally physical systems have been designed by engineers using complex collections of rules and principles. The design process is top-down in nature and begins with a precise specification. This contrasts very strongly with the mechanisms which have produced the extraordinary diversity and sophistication of living creatures. In this case the ‘‘designs’’ are evolved by a process of natural...
