Abstract We explore the sensitivity offered by a global network of cosmic-ray detectors to novel, unobserved phenomenon: widely separated simultaneous extended air showers. Existing localized observatories work independently observe individual showers, offering insight into source and nature ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays. However no current observatory is large enough provide anticipated process...

In that paper we discuss possibilities of using the Artificial Neural Network technic for the individual Extensive Air Showers data evaluation. It is shown that the recently developed new computational methods can be used in studies of EAS registered by very large and complex detector systems. The ANN can be used to classify showers due to e.g. primary particle mass as well as to find a particu...

We propose to extract the charge information of high energy muons in very inclined extensive air showers by analyzing their relative lateral positions in the shower transverse plane. We calculate the muon lateral deviation under the geomagnetic field and compare it to dispersive deviations from other causes. By our criterion of resolvability, positive and negative muons with energies above 104 ...

Abstract The concept of a small, single-layer water Cherenkov detector, with three photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), placed at its bottom in $$120^{\circ }$$ 120 ∘ star configuration ( Mercedes Water Detector) is presented. PMTs are near the lateral walls stations an adjust...

Abstract The detailed simulation of extended air showers (EAS) and their emission Cherenkov fluorescence light requires increasing computation time storage volume with energy the primary particle. Given these limitations, it is currently challenging to optimize configurations imaging telescopes at photon energies beyond approximately 100 TeV. Additionally, existing frameworks are not capable ca...

The pattern of the radio emission of air showers is finely sampled with the LowFrequency ARray (LOFAR). A set of 382 measured air showers is used to test a fast, analytic parameterization of the distribution of pulse powers. Using this parameterization we are able to reconstruct the shower axis and give estimators for the energy of the air shower as well as the distance to the shower maximum.

Shower heads and hot-water faucets containing Legionella pneumophila were evaluated for aerosolization of the organism with a multistage cascade impaction air sampler. Air was collected above two shower doors and from the same rooms approximately 3 ft (91 cm) from the shower doors while the hot water was running. Low numbers (3 to 5 CFU/15 ft3 [0.43 m3] of air) of L. pneumophila were recovered ...

In this thesis a characterization of air showers induced by magnetic monopoles is presented. Monopoles are predicted to exist and be accelerated to relativistic velocities. High energy monopoles traversing earth’s atmosphere continuously deposit energy, inducing an air shower. These air showers have been described based on simulations run inCORSIKA. It was found thatmonopole air showers are con...

A new hybrid experiment has been started by ASγ experiment at Tibet, China, since August 2011, which consists of a low threshold burst-detector-grid (YAC-II, Yangbajing Air shower Core array), the Tibet air-shower array (Tibet-III) and a large underground water Cherenkov muon detector (MD). In this paper, the capability of the measurement of the chemical components (proton, helium and iron) wit...

Studies of the influence of different hadronic models on extensive air showers at ultra-high energies are presented. The hadronic models considered are those implemented in the well-known QGSJET and SIBYLL event generators. The different approaches used in both codes to model the underlying physics is analyzed using computer simulations performed with the program AIRES. The most relevant observ...
