Although the primary function of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D(3) [1,25(OH)(2)D(3)] is the regulation of calcium and phosphorus metabolism, it also regulates the growth and differentiation of several different cell types. Recent work suggests that 1,25(OH)(2)D(3) regulates cellular growth by altering the synthesis of growth factors and growth factor responses.

For optimal cellular function a stable extracellular pH is needed [1]. There are several cellular and extra-cellular buffer systems in the body that interacts to maintain a stable extracellular pH. But in neonates to keep a stable extracellular pH poses a challenge due to the higher production of acids as compared to adults, which is three times higher as compared to adults. The most important ...

Neuronal firing in the hippocampal formation (HF) of freely moving rodents shows striking examples of spatialorganization in the form of place, directional, boundary vector and grid cells. The firing of place and grid cells shows an intriguing form of temporal organization known as 'theta phase precession'. We review the mechanisms underlying theta phase precession of place cell firing, ranging...

Device-to-Device (D2D) has been a potential technology to improve the sum-rate of cellular networks, especially in local communication. By reusing the resource of cellular user equipment (UE), D2D can enhance the spectrum efficiency, but at the cost of introducing extra co-channel interference. In this paper, we adopt a resource reusing mechanism in which multiple D2D pairs can share multiple r...

Inorganic phosphorus is scarce in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, where the high-light-adapted ecotype HLI of the marine picocyanobacterium Prochlorococcus marinus thrives. Physiological and regulatory control of phosphorus acquisition and partitioning has been observed in HLI both in culture and in the field; however, the optimization of phosphorus metabolism and associated gains for its phosph...

Phorbol-12,13-dibutyrate, epidermal growth factor, and insulin raised the intracellular pH ([pH]i), presumably through the activation of a Na+/H+ antiporter. Addition of amiloride or replacement of extra-cellular Na+ by choline which abolishes the cytoplasmic alkalinization prevented the stimulation of hexose transport by these agents. Furthermore, monensin, a Na+/H+ ionophore which increases t...

The present study is concerned with the production of glucose oxidase (GOD) from thermophilic Penicillium sp. in a 250 mL shake flask. Fourteen different strains of thermophilic Penicillium sp. were isolated from the soil and were screened for glucose oxidase production. IIBP-13 strain gave maximum extra-cellular glucose oxidase production as compared to other isolates. The effect of submerged ...

Aneuploidy is a condition frequently found in tumor cells, but its effect on cellular physiology is not known. We have characterized one aspect of aneuploidy: the gain of extra chromosomes. We created a collection of haploid yeast strains that each bear an extra copy of one or more of almost all of the yeast chromosomes. Their characterization revealed that aneuploid strains share a number of p...

Abstract We formulate an active-gel theory for multicellular migration in the extra-cellular matrix (ECM). The cells are modeled as active, polar solvent, and ECM a viscoelastic solid. Our enables to analyze dynamic reciprocity between migrating their environment terms of distinct relative forces alignment mechanisms. linear stability homogeneously ECM. predicts that, consequence cell-matrix al...
