INTRODUCTION Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease characterized by the presence of non-caseating granulomas in affected organs. Almost 70% of patients with a sarcoidosis reaction have hepatic involvement. However, evidence-based clinical management or treatment strategies for hepatic sarcoidosis are poorly defined. Here, we present a case of a resected hepatic sarcoidosis patient. Additionally,...

The facial nerve is commonly involved in neural sarcoidosis, but there is only one reported case in which bilateral facial paralysis was the sole manifestation of sarcoidosis. We report a case of sarcoidosis presenting with bilateral facial paralysis as the only sign. The pathology, clinical presentation, pathophysiology and diagnosis of sarcoidosis has been discussed.

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem granulomatous disease of unknown cause that can affect the heart. Cardiac sarcoidosis may be present in as many as 25% of patients with systemic sarcoidosis, and it is frequently underdiagnosed. The early and accurate diagnosis of myocardial involvement is challenging. Advanced imaging techniques play important roles in the diagnosis and management of patients with ...

Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease of unknown etiology, characterized by the formation of noncaseating granulomas. Gastrointestinal (GI) system involvement that is clinically recognizable occurs in less than 0.9% of patients with sarcoidosis, with data revealing small intestine involvement in 0.03% of the cases. A high index of suspension is required in patients presenting with sma...

This manuscript outlines recent advances in the diagnosis and treatment of sarcoidosis. The diagnosis of sarcoidosis can occasionally be made on clinical grounds without a confirmatory biopsy when very specific clinical findings are present. Otherwise, the diagnosis requires histologic evidence of granulomatous inflammation, exclusion of alternative causes, and evidence of systemic disease. Bec...

BACKGROUND Serum angiotensin converting enzyme (SACE) is considered to reflect disease activity in sarcoidosis. SACE activity is increased in many patients with active sarcoid lesions. The mechanism for the increased SACE activity in this disease has not been clarified. ACE insertion/deletion (I/D) gene polymorphism has been reported to have an association with SACE levels in sarcoidosis, but n...

Sarcoidosis may be associated with granulomatous inflammation in any part of the body, usually in more than one area [1]. Rare manifestations of sarcoidosis include unusual patterns of organ involvement, or are the result of granulomatous inflammation developing in unusual locations for sarcoidosis. In other rare cases, sarcoidosis is associated with a second disorder. Although the frequency of...

Chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) may complicate pulmonary sarcoidosis. We re-estimated the global burden of sarcoidosis and the burden of CPA complicating sarcoidosis. We searched the literature and reference lists of retrieved papers to identify all published sarcoidosis incidence and prevalence data. We estimated the frequency of CPA from 11 papers relating to >3,000 patients with sarcoi...

BACKGROUND Sarcoidosis is a granulomatous disease of unknown etiology and coccidioidomycosis is a granulomatous fungal infection endemic to the southwestern United States. Clinical observations on patients with sarcoidosis and coccidioidomycosis simultaneously led to the hypothesis that sarcoidosis can be caused by the fungus Coccidioides. METHODS Two patients with sarcoidosis and coccidioido...
