Right atrial appendage aneurysm is a very rare condition which can be asymptomatic or can cause arrhythmia or life-threatening thromboembolism. We report a case of newborn with right atrial appendage aneurysm who was diagnosed with fetal echocardiography. Anticoagulant therapy was applied to prevent thromboembolism and he is still going on follow-up without any complaint.
OBJECTIVES To study the outcome of chromosomally normal pregnancies with increased nuchal translucency at the 10-14-week scan. DESIGN Retrospective study of 1320 chromosomally normal singleton pregnancies with nuchal translucency of > or = 3.5 mm. In addition to fetal karyotyping these patients were managed with follow-up scans at 14-16 and 20-22 weeks, specialist fetal echocardiography and i...
OBJECTIVES To assess the accuracy of fetal echocardiography at 11-13 weeks performed by well-trained obstetricians using a high-frequency linear ultrasound transducer. METHODS Fetal echocardiography was performed by obstetricians immediately before chorionic villus sampling for fetal karyotyping at 11-13 weeks. Digital videoclips of the examination stored by the obstetrician were reviewed off...
Prenatal intervention of severe fetal aortic valve stenosis by ultrasound-guided percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty has been performed to prevent the progression to hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and achieve biventricular circulation in neonates. Here we report a case of fetal aortic valvuloplasty prenatally diagnosed with aortic stenosis at 24 weeks of gestation and showed worsening features...
OBJECTIVES Fetal cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers a potential alternative to echocardiography, although in practice, its use has been limited. We sought to explore the need for additional imaging in a tertiary fetal cardiology unit and the usefulness of standard MRI sequences. METHODS Cases where the diagnosis was not fully resolved using echocardiography were referred f...
A 31-year-old woman was referred for fetal cardiac assessment at 30 weeks of gestation because of fetal arrhythmia and inadequate visualization of the 4-chamber heart at another hospital. Routine scanning demonstrated normal growth, no anomalies, and a normal 4-chamber view; however, the great vessels were inadequately evaluated. Detailed fetal echocardiography was then performed with sequentia...
OBJECTIVE To test the hypothesis that there are differences in the level of maternal-fetal attachment before and after fetal echocardiography in the presence or absence of cardiac abnormalities. STUDY DESIGN Cohort study in which the mothers responded to a validated Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale. The study compared a group of pregnant women with diagnosis of fetal heart disease (FHD) with a...
