A path tracking control method for a kinematically redundant manipulator on a flexible base is proposed. The method is based on dynamic redundancy resolution through a vibration suppression constraint. It is shown that the end-effector path can pass via an algorithmic singularity without destabilizing the system. Simulation data from a planar system is presented, confirming that stable path tra...

This paper presents development of a dynamic model of a two-link flexible manipulator. An explicit, complete, and accurate nonlinear dynamic model of the system is developed using assumed mode method. The Lagrangian approach is used to derive the dynamic model of the system. Several responses including angular positions and displacements of both links are obtained and analysed.

A new approach to the design of light manipulator arms with long links is proposed in this paper. In contrast with traditional schemes, a flexible link is provided with a special force unloading system (FUS) having electrohydraulic drives. As a result, the static and dynamic errors caused by link structural deflections are minimized. Strategy of control the unloading actuators with measuring st...

In this paper control of a flexible joint manipulator is designed using an adaptive output-feedback controller based on a backstepping design. The parameters of system are assumed to be unknown and only motor position and link position measurements are used for the synthesis of the controller. A canonical state representation of the system is derived and filters are designed to obtain the estim...

Robotic manipulators are widely used to help in dangerous, monotonous, and tedious jobs. Most of the existing robotic manipulators are designed and built in a manner to maximize stiffness in an attempt to minimize the vibration of the end-effectors. This high stiffness is achieved by using heavy material and bulky design. Hence, the existing heavy rigid manipulators are shown to be inefficient ...

A new formulation of a trajectory tracking controller for flexible joint robotic manipulator is proposed. The controller is based on the continuous time nonlinear predictive control approach wherein predicted errors in the actual response and the desired response and current control expenditure is minimized point-wise to obtain an optimal, nonlinear feedback control law. It is shown that the we...

Dynamics and control of flexible robot manipulators have received wider attention during the last two decades. In manufacturing and space applications, the use of lightweight structures in robot manipulators is motivated by their capacity for high speed maneuvers, their high payload to arm weight ratio, higher mobility, reduced energy consumption, and lower inertia forces for accurate positioni...

This paper presents an intelligent method of tuning a flat controller for trajectory tracking of a single link flexible manipulator. The tip position of the manipulator was determined as the flat output. Using the flat output, a feedback control law is designed to stabilize the tip of the end effector and track the reference trajectories. The gains obtained for the flat controller is optimized ...

A novel composite control scheme for a manipulator with flexible links and joints is presented that uses the singular perturbation technique (SPT) to divide the manipulator dynamics into reduced order slow and fast subsystems. A neural network controller is then applied for the slow subsystem and a state-feedback H∞ controller for the fast subsystem. Results are presented that demonstrate impro...

Industrial robot manipulators are general-purpose machines used for industrial automation in order to increase productivity, flexibility, and product quality. Other reasons for using industrial robots are cost saving, and elimination of hazardous and unpleasant work. Robot motion control is a key competence for robot manufacturers, and the current development is focused on increasing the robot ...
