Image segmentation is one of the key techniques in the field of image understanding and computer vision. To determine the optimal threshold in image segmentation, an effective image threshold segmentation method based on fuzzy logic is presented. A new kind of fuzzy entropy is defined, that is not only related to the membership, but also related to probability distribution. According to the max...

The vibration signals of rolling bearings are often nonlinear and non-stationary. Multiscale entropy (MSE) has been widely applied to measure the complexity of nonlinear mechanical vibration signals, however, at present only the single channel vibration signals are used for fault diagnosis by many scholars. In this paper multiscale entropy in multivariate framework, i.e., multivariate multiscal...

A fuzzy aspect is introduced into L systems and some of its properties are investigated. The relationship between fuzzy L languages and the fuzzy languages generated by fuzzy grammar defined by Lee and Zadeh is elucidated. The concept of fuzzy entropy of a string is proposed as a measure of fuzziness of the latter. Some relationship between fuzzy L systems and the ordinary L systems is discussed.

Information theory was introduced by Shannon in 1948 and it includes the study of uncertainty measures. Analogous to information theory which is founded on probability theory, notion of fuzzy sets was established by Zadeh in 1965 which is a mechanism to manage uncertainty. The pedestal for present study is information theory with intuitionistic fuzzy sets. Atanassov (1986) devised Intuitionisti...

Congestion leads to bandwidth degradation and, packet losses thereby causing retransmissions and higher energy drain rate by the nodes in Mobile Ad hoc Networks(MANET). So providing Quality of Service(QoS) and reducing congestion levels are some of the major issues to be addressed in these networks. However , use of appropriate congestion control measures is complicated due to the interdependen...

Original scientific paper From the view of time sequence, a petroleum pipeline leak detection and location method is proposed based on intuitionistic fuzzy set theory. The method uses wavelet decomposition and semi-hard-and-soft thresholding method to remove the noise of signal. Secondly, selecting fixed-length normal dynamic pressure wave signal sequences as the template sequence, and the same...

Data mining is the process of extracting hidden patterns from huge data. Among the various clustering algorithms, k-means is the one of most widely used clustering technique in data mining. The performance of k-means clustering depends on the initial clusters and might converge to local optimum. K-means does not guarantee the unique clustering because it generates different results with randoml...

The dynamics of brain area influenced by focal epilepsy can be studied using focal and non-focal electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. This paper presents a new method to detect focal and non-focal EEG signals based on an integrated index, termed the focal and non-focal index (FNFI), developed using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and entropy features. The DWT decomposes the EEG signals up to si...

Thresholding is an important topic for image processing, pattern recognition and computer vision. Selecting thresholds is a critical issue for many applications. The fuzzy set theory has been successfully applied to many areas, such as control, image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision, medicine, social science, etc. It is generally believed that image processing bears some fuzzine...

The paper introduces ontogenic Fuzzy-CID3 algorithm (F-CID3) which combines a neural network algorithm and fuzzy sets into a single hybrid algorithm which generates its own topology. Two new methods, one based on a concept of a neural fuzzy number tree, and a class separation method are introduced in the paper and utilized in the algorithm. The F-CID3 algorithm is an extension of an ontogenic C...
