The Monte Carlo simulation code CEARPPU has been improved to obtain better accuracy for predicting pulse-height spectra measured at high counting rates. Experimental verification was carried out by measuring an Fe-55 spectrum with a Si(Li) X-ray spectrometer. Based on the spectrum measured at low counting rate, which is considered to be the “true” spectrum with no pulse pile-up distortion, the ...

Our discussion of regression will concentrate on linear regression. Its central idea is to find the straight line that "best" fits a set of observed points, i.e., observed pairs of values of two variables. With observed data we often have problems of minor errors of measurement and with the effects of chance deviations from some underlying pattern. For example, height and weight data are subjec...

weirs have widely been used for the flow measurement, flow diversion and its control in the open channels. attempts have been made to study flow over different shapes of normal weirs, side weirs and oblique weirs. this paper is connected with the development of the discharge coefficient measurement. in the present study four different weirs in different height are considered for validation purp...

− A new method of three-dimensional profile measurement of four-step reference specimens is presented. Instead of measuring only the height difference between central points of the two neighbouring surfaces of the specimen, overall profile of the whole specimen can be measured by using the fringe scanning Fourier transform method. The method to determine step height from its surface profile is ...

The reliability of length measurement was determined in 38 infants less than 1 year of age. The SD of a single length measurement was 0.28 cm at birth and 0.42 cm both at 6 weeks and at 8 months of age, comparable with the SD of a single height measurement in previously reported older children. There is no technical reason to prevent reliable measurement of young infants.

Over the last few years computer based signal processing has become more prominent in forensic image analysis Using the processing power of computers and the advances in mathematical algorithms it is now possible to generate a wealth of information from an image once it has been digitized It has already been recognised that the image quality from many CCTV systems is generally too poor for faci...

Estimation of tree growth is generally based on repeated diameter measurements. A buttress at the height of measurement will lead to overestimates of tree diameter. Because buttresses grow up the trunk through time, it has become common practice to increase the height of measurement, to ensure that measurements remain above the buttress. However, tapering of the trunk means that increasing meas...

Gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) is an effective method for the measurement of total serum cholesterol. Its use in the clinical laboratory, however, requires careful attention to many variables (flow rate, sample size, sensitivity of solvent and choice of the quantitation method, i.e. peak-height ratio vs. peak height). This report evaluates the effect of these variables on the quantitation of s...

Introduction Stature reconstruction is important as it provides a forensic anthropological estimate of the height of a person in the living state – playing a vital role in identification of individual. Height estimation by measurement of various long bones has been attempted by several workers with variable degree of success. Each worker has derived his own formula for calculating the stature f...
