Immune activation in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a well described phenomenon. We found that HIV patients have higher secretion of interferon (IFN)-γ compared with non-HIV subjects, as measured by the "nil" value in the QuantiFERON-TB Gold test, even when viral loads are low. This may reflect ongoing immune activation, even with optimal HIV management.

Interferon-γ (IFN-γ) production by natural killer (NK) cells and cytotoxic lymphocytes is a key component of innate and adaptive immune responses. Because inhibitor of κB-ζ (IκBζ), a Toll-like receptor (TLR)/interleukin-1 receptor (IL-1R) inducible transcription factor, regulates IFN-γ production in KG-1 cells, we tested IκBζ's role in the classic lymphocyte pathway of IL-12/IL-18-induced IFN-γ...

Objective Thyroid cancer (TC) is one of the fastest-growing malignant tumors. This study sought to explore mechanism immune escape mediated by receptor tyrosine kinase (KIT) in TC. Methods The expression microarray TC was acquired through GEO database, and difference analysis Kyoto encyclopedia genes genomes pathway enrichment were carried out. KIT levels cell lines (K1/SW579/BCPAP) human norma...

immunological defense complex is involved: the role of complement, T-lymphocytes, NK-cells noted. Of particular importance among immune factors interferon-γ, which able to limit reproduction Candida fungi in early stages infection by stimulating response. This due fact that interferon-γ strongest stimulator effector functions macrophages (microbicidal activity, cytokine production), increases e...

Studies in mice have shown that proinflammatory Th17 cells can cause acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) related tissue damage; however, whether they play a role in human aGVHD remains unclear. In a prospective study, we measured the proportion of Th17 cells in the blood and skin of patients at the onset of aGVHD. We found no difference in the proportion or amount of IL-17 produced by T cel...

Background: Genistein (GEN), a naturally occurring flavonoid present in soy bean, has attracted scientific interest for its possible benefits in cancer. Objective: The potential immunomodulatory effects of genistein on the immune system and against TC-1 tumor cell line were evaluated in adult female C57BL/6 mice. Methods: Mice were treated with GEN 10 days before to 10 days after the tumor indu...

BACKGROUND In vitro and animal studies have demonstrated that Chlorella is a potent biological response modifier on immunity. However, there were no direct evidences for the effect of Chlorella supplementation on immune/inflammation response in healthy humans. METHODS This study was designed for an 8-week randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial: 5g of Chlorella (n=23) or Placebo ...

Background.  We assessed immune activation after antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation to understand clinical failure in diverse settings. Methods.  We performed a case-control study in ACTG Prospective Evaluation of Antiretrovirals in Resource-Limited Settings (PEARLS). Cases were defined as incident World Health Organization Stage 3 or 4 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease or death, ...

Background: The refolding of proteins from inclusion bodies is affected by several factors, including solubilization of inclusion bodies by denaturants, removal of the denaturant, and assistance of refolding by small molecule additives. Objectives: The purpose of this study was optimization of recombinant human interferon-b purification in order to achieve higher efficiency, yield, and a produ...
