To detect visually salient elements of complex natural scenes, computational bottom-up saliency models commonly examine several feature channels such as color and orientation in parallel. They compute a separate feature map for each channel and then linearly combine these maps to produce a master saliency map. However, only a few studies have investigated how different feature dimensions contri...

Fixation density maps (FDM) created from eye tracking experiments are widely used in image processing applications. The FDM are assumed to be reliable ground truths of human visual attention and as such one expects high similarity between FDM created in different laboratories. So far, no studies have analysed the degree of similarity between FDM from independent laboratories and the related imp...

Motion editing requires the preservation of spatial and temporal information of the motion. During editing, this information should be preserved at best. We propose a new representation of the motion based on the Laplacian expression of a 3D+t graph: the set of connected graphs given by the skeleton over time. Through this Laplacian representation of the motion, we propose an application which ...

This paper presents a novel method for detecting salient regions in both images and videos based on a discriminant center-surround hypothesis that the salient region stands out from its surroundings. To this end, our spatiotemporal approach combines the spatial saliency by computing distances between ordinal signatures of edge and color orientations obtained from the center and the surrounding ...

In this paper, we present a new method for solving the Motion Retargeting Problem, by using an intermediate skeleton. This allows us to convert movements between hierarchically and geometrically different characters. An Inverse Kinematics engine is then used to enforce Cartesian constraints while staying as close as possible to the captured motion.

Motion retargeting is a process of copying the motion from one (source) to another (target) character when those body sizes and proportion (e.g, arms, legs, torso, and so on) are different. One of the simplest ways to retarget the human motion is manually modifying its joint angles one at a time, however, it would be a difficult and tedious task to get it done for whole the joints of the given ...

The U.S. Navy is currently developing its next-generation cruise missile, the Tactical Tomahawk, which improves upon current versions by its ability to be retargetedin flight against emergent time-critical targets. In this study, we developed an advanced operator interfaceprototype for monitoring, controlling and retargeting the Tactical Tomahawk missile and empirically tested the effect of mis...
