few external marks (iDuke-Elder, 1954), though a 'black eye' is more often seen Diplopia is the result of tethering of either or both the inferior rectus and inferior oblique muscles in the fracture with consequent restriction of movements of the globe. At the same time downward displacement of the globe contributes to the muscle imbalance. The net result is limitation of upward and or downward...
The eye is convergent from the orbital axis when in the primary gaze position; greater projection of the lateral sclera results from the posterior location of the lateral orbital rim relative to the medial orbital rim. If the horizontal tarsal ligamentous band cannot lengthen to accommodate an increasingly exophthalmic globe in thyroid ophthalmopathy, a horizontally tight eyelid with increased ...
Implant-supported craniofacial prostheses are made to restore defective areas in the face and cranium. This clinical report describes a technique for fabrication of an orbital prosthesis with three adjacent implants in the left lateral orbital rim of a 60-year-old woman. Selection of appropriate attachment system (individual magnetic abutments versus bar-clip attachment) for implant-supported o...
Dallas, Texas; and Cleveland, Ohio Background: Complete corrugator supercilii muscle resection is important for the surgical treatment of migraine headaches and may help prevent postoperative abnormalities in surgical forehead rejuvenation. Specific topographic analysis of corrugator supercilii muscle dimensions and its detailed association with the supraorbital nerve branching patterns has not...
BACKGROUND Many implants are being used for the reconstruction of orbital wall fractures. The effect of the choice of implant for the reconstruction of an orbital wall fracture on the surgical outcome is under debate. The purpose of this article is to compare the outcomes of orbital wall reconstruction of small orbital wall fractures on the basis of the implants used. METHODS The authors cond...
The authors present a case of a 4-year-old girl with an orbital floor fracture. During surgery absorbable collagenous mesh (Pelvicol) was placed between the bone wall and the orbital periosteum. Pelvicol was selected as a natural xenogeneic tissue (porcine dermis) ready for first use in the reconstruction of the orbital floor fracture. The patient has fully recovered without any symptoms.
Glaucomatous neuroretinal rim loss can occur in a sequence of sectors with the temporal inferior disc sector as the first and the nasal superior disc sector as the last to be affected. This study evaluated whether the position of the central retinal vessel trunk is correlated with this pattern of glaucomatous rim loss. Morphometrically stereo colour optic disc photographs of 157 glaucomatous ey...
purpose : to present a case of orbital cellulitis secondary to dacryocystitis case report : a 48-year-old postmenopausal lady was referred with a prominent proptosis of the right eye in addition to external ophthalmoplegia. she had one year history of lacrimation. orbital computed tomography (ct) revealed an extraconal infiltration near the medial and inferior orbital wall consistent with orbit...
