We show that, for both the conformal and projective groups, all the differential invariants of a generic surface in three-dimensional space can be written as combinations of the invariant derivatives of a single differential invariant. The proof is based on the equivariant method of moving frames.

In this paper the motion without sliding of a homogeneous ball on a surface of revolution is studied. It is shown that the necessary condition for stability of stationary periodic motions of the ball obtained by Routh is also a sufficient one. We prove that the nondegenerate invariant manifolds are diffeomorphic to unions of invariant tori filled with quasiperiodic motions.

In the article we prove the Casson Invariant Conjecture of Neumann– Wahl for splice type surface singularities. Namely, for such an isolated complete intersection, whose link is an integral homology sphere, we show that the Casson invariant of the link is one-eighth the signature of the Milnor fiber.

In this paper we present an algorithm for 3D medical image segmentation based on an affine invariant flow. The algorithm is simple to implement and semi-automatic. The technique is based on active contours evolving in time according to intrinsic geometric measures of the image. The surface flow is obtained by minimizing a global energy with respect to an affine invariant metric. Affine invarian...

Similarity is one of the most important abstract concepts in the human perception of the world. For example, we encounter it every day during our interaction with other people whose faces we recognize. In computer vision and pattern recognition, shape similarity is one of the most fundamental and largely open problem. With slight exaggeration, we can say that all pattern recognition problems bo...

Correspondence between non-rigid deformable 3D objects provides a foundation for object matching and retrieval, recognition, and 3D alignment. Establishing 3D correspondence is challenging when there are non-rigid deformations or articulations between instances of a class. We present a method for automatically finding such correspondences that deals with significant variations in pose, shape an...

In recent years there has been a tremendous increase in computer vision research using range images (or depth maps) as sensor input data. The most attractive feature of range images is the explicitness of the surface information. Many industrial and navigational robotic tasks will be more easily accomplished if such explicit depth information can be efficiently obtained and interpreted. Intensi...

Image invariants are those properties of the images of an object that remain unchanged with changes in camera parameters, illumination etc. In this paper, we derive an image invariant for smooth surfaces with mirror-like reflectance. Since, such surfaces do not have an appearance of their own but rather distort the appearance of the surrounding environment, the applicability of geometric invari...

In this paper we consider cases of existence of invariant measure, additional first integrals, and Poisson structure in a problem of rigid body’s rolling without sliding on plane and sphere. The problem of rigid body’s motion on plane was studied by S.A.Chaplygin, P.Appel, D.Korteweg. They showed that the equations of motion are reduced to a secondorder linear differential equation in the case ...
