A series of pyrazolyl- and 3,5-dimethylpyrazolyl-functionalized 2-methylimidazolium-based salts have been prepared through neat reactions of 1-pyrazolylmethylene-2-methylimidazole and 1-(3,5-dimethylpyrazolylmethylene)-2-methylimidazole with alkyl or polyfluoroalkyl iodides or 1-bromohexane, followed by anion exchange with LiN(SO2CF3)2 or KPF6. Their thermal properties were determined by DSC an...
Poly(ionic liquid)-grafted silica materials were firstly synthesized by polymerization of 1-vinyl-3-butylimidazolium bromide as a new ionic liquid monomer on mercaptopropylated silica by surface radical chain-transfer polymerization. The bromide counterion was exchanged to be three other inorganic anions including tetrafluoroborate, hexafluorophosphate, and trifuoromethanesulfonate through simp...
We have compared the structural, electrical, and magnetic properties of Ru(Gd1.5-xPrx)Ce0.5Sr2Cu2O10-δ (Pr/Gd samples) with x = 0.0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.033, 0.035, 0.04, 0.05, 0.06, 0.1 and RuGd1.5(Ce0.5-xPrx)Sr2Cu2O10-δ (Pr/Ce samples) with x = 0.0, 0.01, 0.03, 0.05, 0.08, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2 prepared by the standard solid-state reaction technique with RuGd1.5(GdxCe0.5-x) Sr2Cu2O10-δ (Gd/Ce samples) wi...
Dysfunction of gap junctions (GJs) caused by mutations in connexin26 (Cx26) and Cx30 accounts for nearly half of all cases of hereditary nonsyndromic deafness cases. Although it is widely held that GJs connecting supporting cells in the organ of Corti mainly provide ionic pathways for rapid removal of K+ around the base of hair cells, the function of GJs in the cochlea remains unknown. Here we ...
Ion conducting membranes/electrolytes have been employed extensively in some important industrial and biological systems, especially in fuel cells, water electrolyzers, gas separation, sensors and biological selective ion transport, acting as one of the core components and sometimes directly determining the device performance. However, the traditional polymeric proton exchange membranes (PEMs)/...
The importance of acidic lipids as tissue ion exchange agents has been recently emphasized by a number of investigators (14). In addition, evidence is accumulating that these lipids may play a role in tra-nsmembrane cation transport (3, 5, 6). Consequently, it was felt desirable to study the ionic structure and ion exchange capabilities of the purified acidic lipids. Phosphatidylserine was sele...
A cavitand with ionic, but nonionizable "feet" folds around hydrophobic guests in D2O. Short alkanes and ibuprofen are included and exchange rates are slow on the NMR timescale. Normal octanoyl groups show good affinity for the cavitand and the gastric peptide ghrelin is bound at low pH and physiological temperature.
We report here a novel proton exchange membrane with remarkably high methanol-permeation resistivity and excellent proton conductivity enabled by carefully designed self-assembled ionic conductive channels. A direct methanol fuel cell utilizing the membrane performs well with a 20 M methanol solution, very close to the concentration of neat methanol.
A new poly(ionic liquid)-grafted silica stationary phase was prepared and characterized. It was then applied for multi-mode chromatographies, including ion-exchange, reversed-phase, and hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatographies for the effective separation of anions, hydrophobic compounds, and small polar molecules, respectively.
