Community-acquired methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections are an emerging problem. Although most liver abscesses are caused by Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, S. aureus can occasionally be isolated as the pathogenic organism. Liver abscess caused by MRSA is rarely reported. Here, we report a case of liver abscess due to MRSA in a 34-year-old man with end-stage...
Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated in community-acquired pneumonia is increasingly found in primary pyogenic liver abscesses. The presence of magA in K. pneumoniae has been implicated in hypermucoviscosity and virulence of liver abscess isolates. The K2 serotype has also been strongly associated with hypervirulence. We report the isolation of non-magA, K2 K. pneumoniae strain from a liver abscess o...
progressive necrosis of skin and subcutaneous tissue surrounding the incision of a liver abscess. The discharge contained active amoebae. No history of dysentery was present. Autopsy confirmed the amoebic nature of the liver abscess. Selenew described four cases of desquamative and pustular dermatitis of the head, neck and trunk in adult patients, from the discharge of which he identified adult...
A 64 years diabetic man presented with recurrent episodes of fever and abdominal pain. Ultrasonography revealed the presence of an abscess in the right lobe of the liver and a distended gall bladder with multiple calculi. Salmonella typhi was grown from the liver aspirate. Cholelithiasis may act as a predisposing factor for hepatic abscess formation in Salmonella carriers.
