Surgical treatment is well accepted for patients with traumatic cervical facet joint dislocations (CFD), but there is uncertainty over which approach is better: anterior, posterior or combined. We performed a systematic literature review to evaluate the indications for anterior and posterior approaches in the management of CFD. Anterior approaches can restore cervical lordosis, and cause less p...
UNLABELLED INTRODUCTION There have been few reports of patients with bilateral cervical facet dislocations that remain untreated for eight weeks or more. We report the case of a 76-year-old man with an old bilateral cervical facet joint dislocation fracture that was treated by posterior-anterior reduction and fixation. CASE PRESENTATION A 76-year-old Asian man was involved in a road traffi...
A case of posterior dislocation of the long head of biceps tendon, a rare occurrence following traumatic anterior glenohumeral dislocation, along with complete rotator cuff rupture and large haemarthrosis is presented with imaging and intra-operative findings. The interposed tendon prevented complete reduction. Appearances at MRI were diagnostic and directed the surgical approach.
INTRODUCTION Sternoclavicular dislocations are difficult to diagnose and often missed. Anterior dislocations are more common than posterior dislocations and typically have a low risk of complications. PRESENTATION OF CASE We report the third case of post-traumatic superior sternoclavicular dislocation, which was successfully treated by functional treatment. DISCUSSION The sternoclavicular j...
These two cases with long-term survival after anterior and posterior AO dislocation point out the importance of making the diagnosis. Our simple technique of rapid CT confirmation of AO dislocation is a practical adjuvant procedure, particularly in patients with suspected intracranial injury.
Subtalar dislocation is a significant injury characterised by late complications, including subtalar arthritis. We describe a rare case of irreducible posterior subtalar dislocation due to incarceration of a fracture of the anterior process of the calcaneum in the subtalar joint, and discuss appropriate management.
Femoral head fracture is a relatively rare injury which often associates with a poor functional outcome. The surgical approaches for femoral head fracture are a controversial subject in many study reports. Patients and Methods Nineteen patients suffering from femoral head fracture-dislocation of the hip were admitted to Zagazig university hospital. The fractures were classified according to the...
Aim To compare anterior fusion in standalone anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) using cage and screw constructs and anterior cage-alone constructs with posterior pedicle screw supplementation but without posterior fusion. Methods Eighty-five patients underwent single- or two-level ALIF procedure for degenerative disk disease or lytic spondylolisthesis (SPL). Posterior instrumentation was p...
