Low field ion mobility spectrometry-mass spectrometry (IMS-MS) techniques exhibit low orthogonality, as inverse mobility often scales with mass to charge ratio. This inadequacy can be mitigated by adding vapor dopants, which may cluster with analyte ions and shift their mobilities by amounts independent of both mass and mobility of the ion. It is therefore important to understand the interactio...

parachor based expressions (basic and mechanistic) are often used to model the experimentally observed pressure dependence of interfacial tension (ift) behaviors of complex supercritical carbon dioxide (sc-co2) and crude oil mixtures at elevated temperatures. however, such modeling requires various input data (e.g. compositions and densities of the equilibrium liquid and vapor phases, and molec...

A small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) porosimetry technique is presented for characterization of pore structure in nanoporous thin films. The technique is applied to characterize a spin-on organosilicate low dielectric constant (low-k) material with a random pore structure. Porosimetry experiments are conducted using a "contrast match" solvent (a mixture of toluene-d8 and toluene-h8) having t...

The YSZ-NiO ceramics for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) anode have been investigated. A series of specimens were singly reduced in a hydrogenous atmosphere (Ar-5 vol% H2 mixture) at 600 °C under the pressure of 0.15 MPa or subjected to 'reduction in the mixture-oxidation in air' (redox) cycling at 600 °C. The YSZ-Ni cermets formed in both treatment conditions were then aged in 'water vapor in A...

The heat transfer of a water spray impinging upon a surface in a very low pressure environment is of interest to cooling of space vehicles during launch and re-entry, and to industrial processes where flash evaporation occurs. At very low pressure, the process occurs near the triple point of water, and there exists a transient multiphase transport problem of ice, water and water vapor. At the i...

Goldblatt argues that a decrease in pressure broadening of absorption lines in an atmosphere with low oxygen leads to an increase in outgoing longwave radiation and atmospheric cooling. We demonstrate that cloud and water vapor feedbacks in a global climate model compensate for these decreases and lead to atmospheric warming.

Numerical and experimental results show that during the collapse phase of a vapor bubble near a rigid boundary, in the absence of strong buoyancy forces, a liquid micro jet is developed on the side of the bubble far from the rigid surface and directed towards it. Numerical and experimental results also show that, in the case of a bubble near a free surface, during the collapse phase of the bubb...

A convenient, effective, and scalable protocol for stabilizing volatile liquid chemicals is reported. Through the use of halogen-bond driven co-crystal synthesis, several examples of liquid iodoperfluoroalkanes are transformed into crystalline materials with low-vapor pressure, considerable thermal stability, and moisture resistance. The target compounds can subsequently be re-generated through...

Radio occultation measurements using the Global Positioning System (GPS) and a receiver in low-Earth orbit (LEO) have recently been shown to provide accurate profiles of atmospheric refractivity, pressure, water vapor and temperature with high vertical resolution [e.g. Kursinski et al., 1996]. When a GPS transmitter and receiver pair are on opposite sides of the atmosphere, the radio signal pro...

Water potential (Psiomega) values were determined for aqueous colloids of four molecular sizes of polyethylene glycol (PEG) using freezing-point depression and vapor-pressure deficit methods. A significant third-order interaction exists between the method used to determine Psiomega, PEG molecular size, and concentration. At low PEG concentrations, freezing-point depression measurements result i...
