Magnetic field-responsive iron oxide-loaded hollow mesoporous silica nanocapsules that exhibit high drug loading capacity were synthesized using polymer nanospheres as sacrificial templates. Due to their magnetic field induced heating and remotely triggered drug release capabilities, these hybrid nanomaterials provide an excellent platform for the combination of hyperthermia and chemotherapy.
We report the design of new catanionic vesicles decorated with iron oxide nanoparticles, which could be used as a model system to illustrate controlled delivery of small solutes under mild hyperthermia. Efficient release of fluorescent dye rhodamine 6G was observed when samples were exposed to an oscillating magnetic field. Our system provides direct evidence for reversible permeability upon ma...
Hyperthermia treatment of tumors uses localized heating to damage cancer cells and can also be utilized to increase the efficacy of other treatment methods such as chemotherapy. Magnetic nanoparticle hyperthermia is one of the least invasive techniques of delivering heat. It is based on injecting magnetic nanoparticles into the tumor and subjecting them to an alternating magnetic field. The tec...
Iron core gold shell nanoparticles grafted with Methotrexate (MTX) and indocyanine green (ICG) were synthesized for the first time in this study, and preliminarily evaluated for their potential in magnetic hyperthermia treatment. The core-shell Fe@Au nanoparticles were prepared via the microemulsion process and then grafted with MTX and ICG using hydrolyzed poly(styrene-alt-maleic acid) (PSMA) ...
BACKGROUND The hyperthermic effect of magnetic particles was examined in rat prostate cancer in vivo. Magnetic cationic liposomes (MCLs) have a positive surface charge and generate heat in an alternating magnetic field (AMF) due to hysteresis losses. METHODS Rat prostate cancer cells (PLS 10; androgen independent) were injected subcutaneously into the flank of F344 rats. MCLs were injected in...
Hyperthermia has been suggested as a novel, minimally invasive cancer treatment method. After implantation of magnetic nano- or microparticles around a tumour through blood vessels, irradiation with alternating magnetic fields facilitates the efficient in situ hyperthermia even for deep-seated tumours. On the basis of this idea, if the microspheres are capable of delivering drugs, they could be...
