Primary malignant fibrous histiocytoma (MFH) of the central nervous system (CNS) is uncommon. We report cases of two young patients of MFH arising from the cranial meninges and involving the adjacent skull and scalp. There was infiltration of the brain in one case. Both the lesions were excised and primary scalp repair was performed.
In this study, patterns of prehistoric trepanation in the southern highlands of Peru were examined through an analysis of 11 Cuzco-region burial sites. Trepanations were found in 66 individuals, with several individuals exhibiting more than one trepanation, for a total of 109 perforations observed. The predominant methods used were circular cutting and scraping-methods that proved highly succes...
Abstract Background Meningoencephalocele (ME) is an herniation of brain parenchyma covered by meninges through a bone defect and could be malformative or secondary. Except for rarer cases spontaneous form, ME usually due to endonasal otologic infections rarely after head trauma. In predisposed patients, even mild trauma can lead the formation ME. Methods We performed systematic review literatur...
Abstract There is increasing interest in how immune cells the meninges, membranes that surround brain and spinal cord, contribute to homeostasis disease central nervous system. The outer layer of dura mater, contains both innate adaptive functions as a site for B cell development. In this study, we identified previously undescribed lymphoid structures surrounding fenestrated venous plexi mater....
The authors present a case of primary intracranial extraosseous myxoid chondrosarcoma without any attachment to the cranium or the meninges. The clinical and radiological findings of the primary intraparenchymal tumor are described with a review of the literature concerning cranial and intracranial myxoid chondrosarcoma.
Intracranial lipomas are rare congenital lesions that occur because of abnormal differentiation of embryogenic meninges. These lipomas are usually seen incidentally on brain imaging, and are usually asymptomatic and do not require treatment. The authors present a case of ruptured intracranial lipoma, discovered in an elderly patient presenting with dizziness and episodes of falls.
The authors report a case of cerebral siderosis, a rare disease that generally follows multiple small episodes of subarachnoid hemorrhage from any source, following long-term anticoagulation and minor head injury, and document the features on MR, which demonstrates characteristic hypointensity in the meninges on T2-weighted scans.
