The human glioma-derived cell line D-54 MG and the human medulloblastoma-derived cell line TE-671 have been shown to be sensitive in culture to the pharmacological interference with glutamine metabolism by acivicin, 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine, and methionine sulfoximine. Using as a guide the multiple contributions of glutamine to the biosynthesis of proteins, purines, and pyrimidines, we now ha...

In conjunction with the studies on the metabo lism and incorporation of labeled 5-fluorouracil and 5-fluoroorotic acid into RNA (2), investigations have been carried out to determine the effects of various fluorinated pyrimidine derivatives as in hibitors of nucleic acid biosynthesis. Because the fluorine atom in the pyrimidine molecule is at tached to the same carbon that bears the methyl grou...

The development of tuberculin hypersensitivity in guinea pigs after BCG stimulation was suppressed by intramuscular administration of 50 mg/kg/day of 6-mercaptopurine started at the time of stimulation. Fasting of guinea pigs after BCG stimulation had no effect on the development of tuberculin hypersensitivity.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) has been applied to characterize the interaction of 6-mercaptopurine-ribose (6MPR), an active drug used in chemotherapy of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, with a model biological substrate at therapeutic concentrations and as function of the pH value. Therefore, a detailed vibrational analysis of crystalline and solvated (6MPR) based on Density Functiona...

Individualizing drug therapy by the use of pharmacogenomics offers the opportunity to improve drug efficacy, reduce adverse side effects, and provide cost-effective pharmaceutical care. 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP), 6-thioguanine (6-TG) and azathioprine (AZA) are widely prescribed cytotoxic and immunosuppressive drugs used in the therapy of acute leukaemia, inflammatory bowel diseases, allograft rej...

MoO2Cl2/MoOCl4 have been reacted with 4-phenylimidazole-2-thiol/6-mercaptopurine monohydrate/2-mercaptopyridine in acetonitrile solvent unimolar/bimolar proportions at room temperature. The products thus obtained are: MoOCl3(C9H8N2S), [1]; Mo2O3Cl6(C9H7N2S)(CH3CN)2, [2]; Mo2O3Cl8(C9H7N2S)2(CH3CN)2, [3] and Mo2O4Cl4(C5H4NS-SN4C5), [4]. These were studied by various techniques: infrared, proton N...
